I don't even think I've ever seen this gesture, let alone thought anything about someone wiping their nose (though the thought is disgusting).

Give it time....

FWIW, I heard on the radio it’s a sexual gesture as well.  I never heard of the reference, not does probably anyone else who is over 45.  It’s a bit silly, but whatever.

47 here. I always figured they were smelling their fingers as if to say…..they just had some fun with the opposing team. Gross but….yep lol.

Is the implication that there are some NFL players who are active members of a street gang? Really?

Where's @Roger Goodell when you need him.

I'll have to be the parody "Goger Roodell" for this one:

"The NFL does not condone the use of slanderous gestures that could be interpreted by younger generations while watching NFL games on NBC, ABC, CBS, Fox, Amazon or Netflix.  If they are caught doing other acts of violence and/or questionable judgement while in public, we will give the full support of the local authority to carry out their investigations while letting the player resume their careers knowing full well, it will all be swept under the rug at some point"

Gang affiliation is gang affiliation active or non-active.  If you think there are no players in the NFL with gang affiliations, I think you're fooling yourself.

And so not letting them make some ridiculously juvenile gang sign does what exactly? Sounds to me like they need to change the end zone sign to “no room for gang affiliations”.

It advocates for a specific gang and gives them "street credit" meaning other kids are more willing to join into a specific gang because a player on their favorite team did a gang sign and that means they can be in the NFL and become a millionaire.

It's stupid, but that's the logic from both sides.

It’s great that white men in their 60s are in charge of interpreting this.

They still don't even know what "AWWW SKEET SKEET SKEET SKEET" means.  You can't expect much.

Hi. Hello. Welcome to America — where white men in their 60s have been very concerned about the actions of men of color since, well, forever.

But what if it's a really cold game and your nose just won't stop running? Is actually wiping your nose still okay?

Just don’t wipe immediately after you make a catch or a tackle. Ask the referee for a Kleenex.

I think the Eagles cut DeSean Jackson years ago because they thought if he wasn't an active member of a gang, he had way, way too many connections to one.

I know I’m the get off my lawn, old man type but I wish they’d just eliminate all of these staged celebrations.  Spontaneous is one thing but these elaborate staged ones aren’t necessary.  You want to show somebody up just hand the ball to the ref like it’s no big deal to score against your opponent

It keeps kids from emulating a sign meant for gangs.  I coach youth sports and have literally seen kids make this exact gesture when scoring a touchdown.  There is no room for it in sports.
