He's admitted as much there.  As he was agreeable to moving up the draft to get his replacement.  There's no chance that Shoen and Daboll were not 100% on board with that resigning Jones.  Also if they wanted him out I think there's no chance a guy like Mara would force their hand. Daboll feels he create Josh Allen, he could recreate Danny Dimes.

Turns out that Daboll was a figment of Josh Allen's greatness and Schoen was fancying himself as equi-Beane.  To zeros.

Yea I disagree. I think Mara was the driving force in that extension. I think he wanted Jones back more than both his GM and his coach. I don't think Schoen and Daboll "wanted him out". They were between a rock and a hard place. Their over achievement year 1 left them without a chance to drsft a guy and Jones was out of contract. Given the owner was badgering to keep him I think they came to the view that was the least bad option. I also think Mara knows he screwed up and that is why Schoen and Daboll are still there. Out of guilt. I don't believe Daboll ever thought he could turn Daniel Jones into Josh Allen.

Does Daboll come back in '26?

Nope. Not unless there is a different Head Coach at least. I think the relationship with Sean was pretty frayed that final season, having been by all accounts good before that. And even though if Brady goes Josh might campaign for it.... McDermott with another playoff loss would be on the hotseat. He isn't gonna bring in a local guy, who still has some cache with some of the fanbase, who the star QB loves.... cos if things go south you might just have hired your own replacement.

Probably stated earlier but this ends the Daboll experiment in NY.   Can’t see him lasting after what will happen this year.  Wilson will win you 6 to 7 games with this roster.   He may get you eyeballs on games for the first 8 or so.

I was talking about replacing McDermott, if we don't make the Super Bowl this year. Sooner or later we got to ***** or get off the pot with Sean; had we fired him after 13 seconds and hired Daboll on the spot, I think we still win the division every year and beat the 7 seed in the playoffs.

So, you're presenting the possibility that Pegula might fire Sean McDermott, and hire the HC that gets fired by the giants?

The possibility isn't zero. I'm not saying it’s the right move or that it should definitely happen, but Josh loves him, and Terry knows him, so he will get an interview. Hopefully, we’ll win the Super Bowl and this discussion will become irrelevant.

When Wilson signed with the Giants, I figured the Rodgers to Steelers deal would have been done by now. Rodgers options are limited now. The Steelers go out and get Metcalf to pair with Pickens which is a solid 1-2 punch at WR. Do they really want Mason Rudolph throwing to them. Rodgers and the Steelers need each other. IMHO.

Thing is DK and Pickens are outside deep ball guys. That is the bit of Rodgers's game I think has most dropped off.

Rodgers isn't what he used to be, but he is still better than Rudolph and would be the best QB in Pittsburgh since Ben.

28 TD passes last year. The Steelers need to upgrade from Rudolph especially since they have Metcalf and Pickens as a 1-2 punch.

No, its zero. McDermott is loved by this ownership, he isn't going anywhere.

Yes but their strengths and what Rodgers can still do well are not aligned. They need a deep ball thrower because neither of them have diverse route trees. And ARod's deep ball has really fallen off.

Then they should have kept Wilson.

Wilson is done physically. His last few games last year were horrible, and he should have been benched for Fields.

I think Rodgers is more likely to retire now than play next year. I think the Steelers roll with Rudolph and take Jaxson Dart at 21

I also think retirement is a strong possibility. I know there was talk about the Vikings being interested but that doesn't look like it will happen. At this point it's the Steelers or call it a career. Unless another team jumps in and shows interest in signing him.

I think the Vikings thing was pure media driven. It made no sense after taking McCarthy so high last year. I'm not sure who else would be interested that hasn't already signed someone

Titans pick at 1 and seem likely set there.  Colts seem likely to roll with AR and if he's terrible give jones a shot.  Other than that it's pittsburgh or bust.

And if you're pittsburgh - if he's going to want to wait and do his darkness retreat, you may as well wait until the draft to see if you can get someone you like without having to trade up a lot.  It's a weaker class at QB, but they pick at 21 and not a ton of teams that likely want to invest a 1st round pick in a QB.

I'd say the rams could probably look to the future, but they're in the playoff mix added davante adams, and it doesn't feel like the right use of resources.  Jets at 7 could be, but i think with a defensive coach they'll probably try and grab an impact defender.   Giants and browns are potentially options.  There's always a surprise though, and because the consensus #2 is deions kid, anything could happen.

I'll agree to disagree.  Schoen had the opportunity to lock Jones up for a 5th year because they didn't wan t to pay him the 22 million it would cost--mind you had had not played a complete season, missing 10 games due to injury in 3 years.

The Giants then made the playoffs despite winning only 3 of their last 9 games, despite Jones being one of the least productive starters in the NFL that year. Then the FO fell over themselves and paid him an insane 40 million.  This was a predictable error (injury prone mediocre at best QB), as he immediately was injured again and when he played, he was even worse than he was prior to the re-signing.

There's no deep thought to this on their part--they didn't want to pay a pittance (22 million) to option the 5th year for a "franchise" QB, yet they doubled that per year after first assing into and then getting blown out of the playoffs.  Mara does not publicly seem to be Jerry Jones or Haslam level involvement.  It's difficult for me to imagine that an owner wouldn't pay modest money for a 5th year on their franchise QB under contract, but then would commit (on paper) 160 million over 4 years after 1 playoff win.  In that playoff year he threw 3200 yards , 15 TDs and 5 picks.  It's very easy to believe Daboll thought he could mold Jones into something better than he was after his 3rd year. Had he said, let's get the 5th year, I can't imagine MAra would put up a big fight.

The best part is that Schoen referenced Darnold and the Panthers as a cautionary tale. We all know how it went for Darnold once he joined a competent organization.  It got even better when he referenced Watson and the Browns..

It’s not zero. It’s low but not zero. At some point we win a championship or Terry makes a move.

The exact quote I was given is "Mcdermott is more likely to die in his office than be fired"

Even if we go 2-15 the year after Allen retires without a Super Bowl appearance.
