Before the tear he was on pace for another 1000 yards receiving in Houston.

And I don't know if he will pan out in NE, but for everyone bring up his ACL. You do realize they literally worked him out and got his physical before signing him right??

Diggs also was on pace to have his lowest yards per reception of his career.  The Bills also cleared Von Miller to play in Week 5 off an ACL.  He was not the same player.   Ditto for OBJ.  This happens a lot with ACL injuries.

You do realize that many WR needy teams passed on Diggs in free agency for weeks, including New England who was unable to land Chris Godwin, right?

But keep acting like the Patriots signed Justin Jefferson

I would never write off a player like Diggs, but this does seem like a lot of money for his age, and for what he has shown on the field lately. If he can play like he did his prime years in Buffalo, it will be a great pickup for NE. But can he still do it?

He couldn’t play like he did in his prime years in Houston.  Pretty sure that doesn’t happen after an ACL at age 31

Not the WR for a young QB to develop.  He will undermine Drake Maye

100% agree with this.. heck 1000%.  But you know what we will find out while he is there? Maye's Ceiling. We will find that out this year do to Diggs.. Then Diggs will become cancer, and NE will have to get rid of it.

I loved Diggs from 2020-2022, although the signs of his narcissism were there.

I’ve never seen a Bills player tank like he did in 2023 after Brady became OC. I think he did it to hide how his own skills were declining, maybe even from himself.

Taking himself off the field on third downs in close games. Hard for me to forgive that kind of selfishness.

The Patriots Stephon Gilmore'd us, twice this off-season. By signing current or former Bills, I guess they think they're getting a player motivated to stick it to us.

They like doing that.

He was still a pretty productive slot receiver last year in Houston pre-injury. I don't think he was finished. He could still separate laterally he just couldn't separate vertically anymore.

Whether you pay a 31 year old receiver who had lost his fastball and basically become a slot even before his ACL $23m AAV for three years....? Yea only if you are a bad team with more money than sense.

My guess is Stef will do okay for them. 600 to 750 yards and 4 or 5 touchdowns. But he won't perform up to that contract.

He also was the 3rd most talented WR. Nico is amazing, he's a top 3 WR imo and Dell is phenomenal #2

Will be interesting to see his production as the #1 or 2 target

Who else did they sign? Drawing blanks

NVM - Mack Hollins, that was a good deal imo, little overpaid but not by much

As I already stated, this may not work out. Secondly anyone paying attention already knows even before the injury he wasn't what he was in Buffalo and Minnesota. I know the affects an ACL injury can have on an athlete, especially one now being 31. Again he was still on pace in Houston for 1000 yards before the injury...I'm pretty sure after "x" amount of years at an elite level you will decline unless your Brady.

3rd yes every year teams "kick" the tires or pass on a players,  and? Russell Wilson for some reason is still getting jobs.

Plus for a team like tge Pats who has ish for a receiver room this is a bit of an upgrade. Injury or not

I wouldn't say third most talented. Diggs was still plenty talented. Third most explosive, sure. He was, last season, a guy who you say "I'm fine him having 8 catches because they will be for 10 yards a pop and not hurt me" whereas go back 3 years if Diggs had 8 catches he probably had 150 yards and 2 touchdowns and had wrecked your gameplan.

Whether he is still the guy he even was in Houston is the question on the back of the ACL. And you are right to say it is different being a productive slot when you have explosive guys outside compared to when you have nothing outside and teams can key in on you.

That's a LOT of money for someone his age coming off an injury.  Good for him.  If he can get healthy he'll really help Maye.

Until he gets upset and stabs him in the back……

I really hope the fans are gracious and welcoming. Diggs was a PITA at times, but he brought a ton of excitement and he really did help Allen grow into the quarterback that he is today.

IMO, that's exactly why the Patriots signed him.   The same with Hollins.   They're giving Maye 2 reliable WRs who are going to be where they're supposed to be so that their young QB gains confidence and experience.

I'm not sold on the "team on the rise" rhetoric, or on Maye.

But just because I'm not sold doesn't mean it can't come true.  They get Gonzalez & Barmore back, and with Vrabel & the other additions on D, it could be an excellent defense in '25.  They have a decent WR corps now, and a good running game.  The most glaring weakness is their O-line, which would probably prevent them from making a big leap.

But a leap is something they could make nonetheless.  I swear - if they got back to another SB before we made one with Allen, my already thin tether to sanity will fray & disappear.

I can definitely seeing the Pats winning 8 or 9 games this season, and finishing second to the Bills.  I expect that they'll go OT at #4 and maybe add another OLer later in the draft.

I hear ya, he was productiveand still had juice, I still stand by him being less talented than Dell and definitely Collins.

What a move by Beane getting a 2 for him, i know the dead cap sucked but he'd be gone this year anyway

Ya’ll know he signed because he wants to play for a contender…,

They were both motivated by money, pretty simple. The pats gave both more than any other team was willing bc like most teams without good players to pay they were desperate and have a lot to spend. Diggs has some made up beef in his head with the Bills, but Hollins doesn’t.

I freaking HATE the Pats, but my gut tells me they will be sneaky good this season ... not because of Diggs per se, but their head coach and Drake May.  I hope I am wrong.  I predict Pats will finish second in the division in 2025.

Salutatorian of summer school in this division

I mean the Jets are weakest at QB, but they have a good defense.  Dolphins will have a better offense than the patriots as they have better playmakers even if their offensive line isn't a strength, but their defense took a big step back last year and they can't really hang with playoff teams.

The patriots are picking 4th overall, won 4 games total - Bengals week 1, Jets, bears, bills backups week 18.  They were blown out 7 times.  They were truly among the worst teams in the league.

31st in yards, 30th in scoring, 21st in turnovers, 29th on 3rd downs.  Diggs, Maye development, and some offensive linemen don't fix everything.  Josh McDaniels (who's never coached a top 10 offense without brady) isn't going to just fix a bad unit in one season.  As for the defense - they were 22nd in the league and can't really stop the run.  They added some players to help there, and will probably get a contributor in the first between either Hunter or Carter - but nothings just overnight fixing a young team like this.

I don't see them finishing 2nd, and if they do i would assume NYJ and MIA had terrible seasons more than NE making a massive jump.  You do get the last place schedule though - which gets you the giants, raiders, and titans as non-common opponents.

Commanders season show that it CAN be done, and the easier schedule did seem to tilt things their way (giants did this in year 1 with daboll).

Diggs and Josh McDaniels are about as toxic as you can get for a young quarterback like Drake Maye. Add Vrabel to the equation and a backup quarterback with physical traits like Joe Milton and it is shaping up to be a bad situation for Maye.

There's no way he is fully recovered. Probably a physical to see if he's on track healing but not a full all systems go work out.
