So we didn't need to restructure anyone for this signing I was just looking at that. Christain is scheduled for $3.3M this year. New contract salary at vet minimum and with signing bonus/workout bonus I'm thinking it will pretty much be a wash. Quote

I don't believe Beane has used the tag in his GM career. Also, if I saw it right the franchise tag # for RB this year was $13.6M. If Beane doesn't want to pay $15M AAV I sincerely doubt he would be into paying $13.6M for a one year deal at the position. Quote

He hasn't. Players hate the tag and Beane knows it. The locker room knows Beane is a straight shooter on contracts. Cook signs for Market value or he moves on next year IMO. Quote

Have we ever had a player worthy of using the tag? Maybe Edmunds but it sounded like they were out on him before that Quote

harmonkillebrew Posted Sunday at 01:50 PM Posted Sunday at 01:50 PM I know that the market doesn't place RB value at $15m/year, but I think Cook's value to the offense and team is at least that. Benford just got $19/year. Cook is more important. Our O is now built around the run. Quote
SoonerBillsFan Posted Sunday at 02:51 PM Posted Sunday at 02:51 PM I quit looking at the cap sites anymore, they are all wrong. Beane has proven time and again, he has the real numbers Quote

The tag is only to be used on a guy you are pretty confident you are going to be able to work a deal out with but you need more time. The Lev Bell experience basically killed off using a tag on someone because you just want to stop them hitting the market. Tee Higgins played on the tag last year which is pretty rare these days and even he then signed an extension. If the Bills tag James Cook next year I'd bet a pound to a penny the Bills then extend him before camp. 1 1 Quote

IF the tag was used on Cook, then I agree it would mean they are really close on a deal. Beane won't use it if they are way apart. He will let Cook walk. IMO. 1 Quote
