Those jobs are not returning- it'll be automated, so I don't know what you think is going to happen, but I'd suggest not banking on a manufacturing job 18 years down the line when the fruits of this idiocy come to fruition.  

 

It will be automated? So american mechanics/office workers/management/electricians/quality/payroll/programmers ect ect can get a job, even if every production position is done by some robots? Not to mention the property and payroll taxes generated?

There are many factors that will determine whether a tariff turns out to be positive or negative.  It's not just necessarily just going to raise prices for American citizens.  For example:

• In some cases, our inability to manufacture products in the U.S. is a serious national security issue.  We found this out during Covid, when it was revealed that much of our medical equipment and drugs are manufactured in China.  Not good if we ever went to war with them.

 

As I originally stated, only time will tell how the tariff issue works out.

There is no endgame with the tariffs.  First, a new democratic administration may remove the tariffs, so no company with a brain would spend on the infrastructure.  Second, the tariffs would have to remain indefinitely to secure the advantage to manufacture here.  Again, the minute they are removed, the advantage is gone.

As we watch social security get dismantled and lutnick tell us that only cheaters will be upset if they don't get a payment or 2, I think the plan is to make the system so bad that people will accept privatization.  Same for medicaid.  same for the VA health system.  Once privatized, ordinary Americans will be paying more for less or getting less from SS.  trumpers will be harder hit than most.
