not my point. my point is that this should be in addition to him being the best player on the board. it should have absolutely no bearing on decisions if he can play football. 

 

there are only two things that matter when we draft a cornerback:

1) can he play the position better than anyone else on the board?

2) did he bring a notebook to the meeting?

 

if either of those are yes, we run to the podium.

I wonder if interviews of draft-eligible players have any value at all…it seems possible that a team that conducted no interviews and just based their board on tape evaluation might be better off…

the scene is a cold winter day in Lackawanna. A young couple stops in to visit a coffee shop and this is where we meet Phil, a recently appointed partner at the NYC brokering house of William and Randolph Duke who coaches the NYC blind basketball league after being a 4 year letterman at Penn. Phil's soon to be wife, Juliette is a writer after having multiple injuries preventing her from dancing after her 2 years at Juliard where she left to go Barnard.

 

They are making plans for a nice getaway to Niagara on the Lake and finally roll into town to stop at family bakery where Kyle has returned home to help his grandparents run without telling her he was failing college at Oswego and has a pending drug charge for pills in his car. He is still a nice guy and won at least two hacky sack battles in college. Still, he is a nice guy with charming good looks.

 

...long story short Kyle convinces Juliet to take over the cookie business with him and begin her writing there with absolutely no business experience. Phil goes back to NYC and finds a 10/10 who isn't cracked out in fantasy land and lives happily ever after while Juliet deals with Kyle 10 years later, a bankrupt cookie shop, 2 kids, and kyle promising he will leave the casino by 11pm.

Until you draft a QB that can't recall your 9 worded calls to tell the X WR to run a A route, your slot guy run run a C and your TE and Oline to slide protection to the left for a screen to the FB and instead takes a sack because he was waiting for the TE to run a a route.

My comment was sort of tongue-in-cheek, but still, I wonder how many teams fall irrationally in love with a college player because of his interview, or vice versa.  Professional football just doesn’t seem like job where your “interview” should matter much…

Yes/no I mean football as much about talent but also self drive, fitting in with coaches/teammates etc. it's why drafting is no easy task as many variables. If it was black and white somebody would find the formula eventually.

I like to look at INTs in college  and a senior as well. Who was that kid we drafted that had a ton as a rookie? That I think we traded to NO?

CJ West is the only DT in the draft to hit both. He is going to be a stud.

Wha? That writeup was a perfectly realistic adaptation of the standard Hallmark fantasy, with one exception: the favorable glossing of who Phil ends up with back in NYC is unrealistic, as that superficial, transactional partnership is likely destined for rapid uncoupling. Tariff-related market plunges plus a crypto pump-and-dump betrayal conspire to derail Phil's career and portfolio, and the 10/10 didn't sign up for a non-destination wedding or "SEC interviews."

Byrd. (It's been said already, but Jairus Byrd had an insanely fortuitous INT count as a rookie, and was surprisingly (as I look back) still productive in 4/5 years with Buffalo. He was NOT traded, however. It was that dang foot, wasn't it?)

Has there been many rumors of Buffalo possibly drafting a safety? I feel like we could definitely upgrade that position…

 

im thinking maybe 3-4th round but Buffalo should definitely look at JJ Roberts from Marshall University. He is a great player and leader… At his pro day he tested great and is one of the top safetys in this years draft… Ran a 4.41 and would be a great addition…

Well Hamlin and Forrest are here on one year deals and Bishop is still a question mark. I can see adding one on day 3 to fill the back end of the roster for this year and be a backup in 2026.
