Bills 8th most expensive offense in 2025

Does this blow up the narrative that the Bills aren’t “helping Allen”? 
 

Or does it create new ones that he is getting help? 
 

Or that the $ being allocated on offense isn’t being properly used and it reflects on Beane?

The narrative that Josh Allen is doing everything by himself and has no help has always been false. For one thing, the Bills have built a very good oline in front of him. They've made trades for big name receivers (Diggs and Cooper), they've been more balanced on offense and gotten good running production. The narrative is just false and always has been.

Beane’s hole-plugging is way more expensive than many teams, including the Ravens, who wait for the bargain opportunities to appear on the free agent market.

Agreed, it doesn’t change narratives of helping Josh or not, unless QB pay is removed.

There has been a significant resource shift the past three years. They have spent the money that used be spent on the secondary on the offensive line. And they have invested premium picks on Kincaid, Coleman, Torrence, Cook and Amari Cooper (via trade) as well as continuing to invest in mid tier FA contracts - most recently Samuel and Palmer. Add that to Josh's cap hits increasing.... and you get to his position. The big issue thus far is that the draft picks are still to fully deliver on investment.

The OL, RB room, and TE situation are all good.  And Josh is an elite talent who receives elite pay.   

 

But Josh needs downfield weapons to throw to.  We don't have a lot of money invested there and it shows.  

 

And, yeah, Beane does overpay sometimes.

We still need a quality boundary WR but we have a strong OLine, good if not great TE’s and strong RB room. Would we like one more player, sure. Is Josh doing it all on his own, no.

There isn't really a team in the NFL that doesn't have needs, though, on both sides of the ball.

It’s amusing how so many people think we are the only ones with holes to fill, cap space issues and the occasional whiff in the draft. This is very hard, people, and we are doing better than most. If we can just get the stars to align one time, we can put to rest the “one before I die” stuff.

The Bills’ number matches what overthecap has for their total offensive cap number for 2025. So not a great metric. I don’t think it really tells us anything about any team.

As I watched games last season, I concluded that the important issues were really on the defense.  They had one of the best offenses in the league.  I never felt like they lacked the players to move the ball and score.  On defense, it was obvious to me that they needed an infusion of talent.  The pass rush was inconsistent and the front seven performance against the run was poor.  The safety play was substandard and Douglas struggled in coverage.  Injuries on defense degraded their play as the season moved along because most of the replacements were not good enough.

 

Improving the offense will be great but may not mean as much as making significant improvements to the defense.  Apparently many people see things the same way because the mainstream projections for Buffalo are to go heavy defense in the draft.  I'm greedy.  I want them to find a real field stretcher for the receiver room, a good corner, a big body d-tackle, and an effective pass rusher.  But if they can only get three out of the four, I expect Beane to go after the defensive talent first.

It’s because they pay two tackles, Knox and over pay the very mediocre WRs. The only guys on a rookie deal are Torrence and Kincaid and Cook ( for now).
