hI also disagree with having 50 different sets of standards for children in America. Especially when states like Oklahoma and Mississippi exist.

Lol.  How can anyone here read that nonsense and not laugh at the standard leftist arrogance of roundy.

The same as for all the children.

Did you just assume that the state and local educators would ignore them ?

Of course you did.

It must be hard for you up on that mountaintop.

Should I go on….

Public option is great. That's my policy of choice. Germany invented it in 1887 for pete's sake!

Critical Race Theory was invented in the 1960s.

Okay, what is your metric of success?

Oklahoma is 50/50 in every conceivable school metric except producing good NFL players.

No, I say that some states are poorer (especially rural red states...) and will not have the resources to care for disabled kids without Federal support.

You again are too blind to see.

It is not about any one state or you trotting out any statistics,

It is the inescapable point that YOU feel that you can judge whether or not the parents and teachers are smart enough.

Only a federal bureau is good enough.

Thank God you are a shrinking minority.

Oh now I see who Roundabout is parroting.

Got that? She claims most of the nation's public school students are disabled, poor or rural, which is absurd on its face. Randi, a supposed educator herself, doesn't seem good with numbers, so let's take a look at some data from the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), which closely tracks these kinds of things.

According to the NCES, about 15 percent of the public school population receives special education services, while 19 percent of students are from rural communities. There's likely a decent amount of crossover between these two populations, so we can conclude that Randi's use of "most" is a gross exaggeration.

As for the "poor" students, that is determined by the number of pupils receiving free or reduced-price lunches at school. That number is pretty high, hovering around 50 percent of all students, but here's what Randi doesn't tell you: the lunch program is funded through the U.S. Department of Agriculture, which is now in the capable hands of Brooke Rollins. The kids are not going to starve.

The numbers don't matter at all, of course, because the funding isn't going to be stripped away from any of these students, but the already-dwindling power of Randi Weingarten and the teachers' unions—who kept our kids out of school during COVID and pushed radical ideologies instead of teaching the basics—will certainly be greatly diminished.

Here's a number for Randi Weingarten and the unions: Your stranglehold on the public education system at the federal level will be reduced by 100 percent.

Back to the states. And coincidentally, NORTH CAROLINA ranks 48th in terms of per capita spending on education. 🤔

Why? Bigger (DC) is better?

Trump making them run on that while our debt is out of control leading to inflation the federal workers are not remotely impacted by like the private sector - is just another example of how completely lost these people are.

This is why Musk was out there with a chainsaw.

This is why they were going thru every ridiculous piece of waste.

The optics.  The seriousness they have in finally addressing the root of where we are today.   Getting our finances in order.

He’s got the left supporting big government spending.  Entitlements aren’t on the table.  There’s no threat to your health care.  But these idiots can’t help themselves in automatically just take the opposite position of Trump.

So good luck with that.

Vote bloated government 2028!

You need to stop asking stupid questions- you use your ignorance as a defense when a simple Google search gives you the answer.

Education will be half the cost, and many times better.

Magical thinking, just as dumb as Jimmy Carter in 1979 promising that the creation of a federal DOE would make education better and more efficient.

You are lying and know you are lying. No one says simply taking away money will improve it, but you have to lie to defend the braindead concepts you have advocated in the past.

I don't know if eliminating the Dept of Education is a good idea or not but you're dead set against it. What expertise on the functions and workings of the Dept and its effectiveness in producing better education results do you have that provides you the knowledge to know its a bad idea? Other than being against anything Trump wants.

What on earth are you talking about?

Yes, I believe having one national educational standard is superior to 50 different ones. Some states have more money than others, meaning there will be different standards.

Since @JDHillFan punted, can YOU give me an example of a metric you use to consider the DOE a “failure?”

Ha ha lol. I could ask you the same question in reverse. I'm not against it necessarily. my choice would be to fix what's wrong with it. I'm not saying it was or is perfect. Just like Trump tried to fire everyone claiming they all had bad performance. you guys just buy that crap.

You arguing that education is not important? The federal govt should be involved in stuff it shouldn't be, like selling tesla cars on the white house lawn or telling people to buy tesla stock, but not in education? Sounds like one of the bigger things they were involved in was student loans. with the cost of education you don't think they should assist with that. I would think it is in the USA best intrest to keep producing the best and brightest in Tech and medical fields etc. I did a lot of work for Indian people. I asked one why they are all so smart? He asked what I meant? I Said you are all doctors or engineers or dentists. the all had huge beautiful expensive houses. he said education is very important to them. there is already a billion of them (beautiful people by the way). Does the USA even want to try to compete lol?

Trump Begins Culling the Public Education Indoctrination Herd.

“The Democrats are really going to be losing their minds over this, I mean more than usual.

President Trump’s executive order aims a poison arrow directly at the heart of one of their biggest cash cows and the apparatus they use to dumb down the electorate.”

The utter failure of the Department of Education has been well documented.

I am fond of reminding its defenders that we got a man to the moon with people who were educated long before it existed. It was never needed.

As my friend and  colleague Teri Christoph writes, its creation was a sop from Jimmy Carter to the teachers' unions for their help in getting him elected. Thus began the unholy alliance of the Democrats, the teachers' unions and a Cabinet-level department that was solely focused on indoctrinating American public school children.

Counter-punching the Dem lies that will be flowing over Trump's move is going to keep all of us busy for a while. They'll be rending their garments, filling their diapers, and screaming about the poor school children being returned to the Stone Age. The lies and the legal maneuvering will be exhausting but, as President Trump said, people know that this is the right thing to do. Well, sane people anyway.

Don't you love it when somebody with no kids refers to your children as "our kids"?

Is Weingarten's concern about maintaining a federal role in education for real? They haven't done a bang-up job since taking over:

Trump just said that it will make education "many times better." How?

I mean, I get "we aren't getting results for all that spending." That's obvious. So there's an efficiency argument that throwing money at education hasn't succeeded. But that doesn't mean that cutting off that money magically makes students perform better. It simply doesn't follow.

What "braindead concepts" re: education have I advocated in the past? I am basically a supporter of vouchers and privatization of education provided the private schools meet basic standards. Isn't that where you stand, even though you teach in an old school public school?
