You have absolutely no proof of that. How about we put a woman in this scenario. Would you believe her and think she should get paid if she was assaulted and beaten and had her car stolen 23 years ago and is now looking to file a lawsuit? Or is it only in rape cases that she is "telling the truth" and that's ok?

Expand

What?  There's an abundance of research out there that victims of rape are significantly less likely to report it than other forms of assault.  I would maybe do a little research or just sit this one out.

Again, as you so graciously ignored, the last comment I made to you was if you put a woman in BOTH scenarios, why does she get a pass for a rape but not an assault that leaves her with possible permanent brain damage? They are both violent crimes and should be reported in a timely matter. One should not get a pass over the other

Ask your significant other these questions.  If you have one.

Lol. So, a woman is gonna say "I don't care if I'm beaten badly and get permanent brain damage from it as long as he doesn't try to force sex on me, it's all good"? I really don't care how someone tries to spin it, they are both bad. But one gets a lifetime pass and the other would be looked at as ridiculous 20+ years later.

Did you miss the part where I said assault and car theft? Or did you leave that out intentionally?

How about you answer the question. Is rape worse than being beaten to a pulp and getting your car taken away? If it was a woman in both scenarios, and she chose not to report either or for 20 plus years, you would be ok with her waiting to report the rape but not the assault? One violent crime gets a pass and the other doesn't? OK then

Man you not gonna let this one go huh? Live to fight another day with more of an open mind.

It doesn't matter. Any kind of violent crime should be reported in a timely matter. A regular assault can cause lifetime physical harm just as much as a rape could. The longer it takes to report, the more ridiculous it looks and the less likely the person it to be believed

I am presuming you are a guy.  Ask yourself this:  would you rather have a gang of say 3 guys beat you up and steal your car?  Or would you rather have those 3 guys strip you naked and violate your rear entrance repeatedly?  Which do you think would have a more lasting psychological effect?

Let's take the guy part out of it. I should have used the woman as the example in both instances. The point is, they should both be reported in a timely matter. The longer it takes, the worse it looks for the woman. That's all I am saying

"It's not a valid crime unless it's promptly reported" is a really weird hill to die on.

If I was assaulted and beaten and had my car stolen in 2002 and I just now came forward with it with a lawsuit, how would that look? How is it also any different from this? Granted, rape and the situation I'm referring to are different allegations. But the time frame of reporting would cause concerns, correct? I bet all the people saying "women should be able to report 20, 30, 40 year old rape allegations" would also be asking why it took so long for a person to report an assault and theft of property over 20 years later, right? Why do women always get a pass in this case?

I will probably regret this but I'll try to meet you at your level on this.

Starting with a question - if a woman went to the Columbia school administration and said "this student beat me up and stole my car" what do you believe would have been the administrator's response?

Well, the quicker something gets reported, the more I personally would believe it. The longer it goes and the more rich the person is that has allegations against them, the less it gets believed. You act like women have never lied before

Why don't you tell me what you mean? I can't answer your question because you are asking me how someone would have responded to something when I am not that particular person. Therefore, I don't have an answer to give you. That's like saying how do you think his person would respond to calling them fat?" I couldn't tell you. I'm not them

Ok sure, I'm a glutton for punishment.

Do you believe the administrator's response would have been "please don't report the car thief, you'll ruin his future"?

This comes from a presupposition that women reporting rape lie more often than not when a certain amount of time has passed. There's no evidence or academic study to back that up as far as I know. I don't think your feeling on this is representative of reality. I'm tempted to go farther on that but I won't.

I'd love to hear what the magical cutoff for believable rape claim vs. unbelievable. I think you'll have a hard time coming up with something that isn't completely arbitrary.
