I think this is the biggest misconception among Bills fans, that we can just get by with late round picks at CB. But Benford was an exception. The likes of Wallace and Jackson are good finds on late day 3/UDFA but ideally those are backups. The best CB we've drafted was Tre White who of course was a 1st rounder. So I don't subscribe to the common sentiment that we should never draft CBs high. I think currently CB2 is our weakest position on the roster by far and I would like a legit talent there. Not that I want Beane to do what he did in 2022 and only target a CB in the 1st round, but I'm hoping that's where the value ends up being.

There's a lot of taking the exception as the rule on this thread for different situations.

 

I agree. You aren't finding a Benford in Round 6 in every Draft. You'd be lucky to get a Dane Jackson. Guys like Jackson and Wallace were undoubtedly good returns on the investments. But that didn't make them great Cornerbacks. Just great for the return on a 7th Rounder or Undrafted. You want better then either of them at their absolute best on the other side of Benford. And you're very unlikely to find that on Day 3. 

 

That said, the idea of trading up to get Will Johnson is a laughable concept. But I would hope CB is one of our three picks in Round 1 and Round 2.

He’s a unique talent for sure.  I’m just not convinced he’s a great CB or a great WR, though.  Similar to Jabrill Peppers, I don’t think he would be thought of as a premium player if he only played one position in college.

He's not even close to jabrill peppers... He's a pure corner, who due to his extreme athleticism in football talent was able to play all over , but all the snap counts kept him down from physically dominating 

 

He absolutely has more talent at corner then sauce or Ramsey etc 

 

He was the best 17 year old corner I ever saw when I watched him live and he keeps growing 

 

The whole wanna play him 2 ways will hold him back ... 6-10 snaps a game as a reciever is all he should have and he will blossom really good at cb

Unfortunately, the Bills' entire draft (all 10 picks) is only worth 1464 points, which might get the Bills to #7 or #8.  Carter will be long gone, even if two QBs go early.
