At around 30:30 mark where Beane said Josh "busting his chop by texting him, say this QB or that QB gets a deal, dropping him down the line."

Brah... he signed an obviously team friendly contract that is below market value no matter what ANYONE says.

Humans are complex beings. We can have multiple thoughts at the same time.

Josh can be so confident in himself and his ability that he's willing to take a team friendly deal while simultaneously understanding that the narrative often favors the highest paid QB.

Josh cares because he cares about being the best QB in the NFL

I mean if Josh didn’t care, he could take even less in pay to help the team even more.  But he is the league MVP and deserves every dollar they’re giving him at this point, way more than dirtbags like DeShaun Watson.

The NFLPA wouldn’t let that happen

I don't know if I believe or agree with that. The NFLPA represents all the players. The Bills spend to the cap. The money will be going to players regardless. I believe Josh and his agent could agree to anything they wanted to.

I think we all know the Beane - Josh relationship by now. Josh likes to joke around and ball bust a bit and the texts every time a QB got a deal were just that. I am sure that whenever they have had serious conversations about Josh's contract Beane was always clear he needed to get beyond 2024 and the pain (and dead money) of moving on from the old guard and then when the table was re-set in 2025 they would take a serious look at Josh's deal. I believe that would have happened this offseason with our without the MVP. Josh Allen is a smart guy. He understands the way the league works.

“It’s weird to say this, but what’s five [million] more going to do for my life that I can’t already do right now? I live a pretty good life. Got a house, got a car. We’re good.”

He knows there’s a balance. $250M is enough. He is not Dak or Trevor but they have parallels in pay.

Josh knows leaving money on the table gives the GM some extra money to either keep somebody or sign a player or two that will help get the team and the fans their 1st SB win.

I don’t think so. He’s the league MVP. As an example, and an obviously unrealistic one, if Allen agreed to a 5 year, $100M extension, the NFLPA would take issue. It throws off the whole market. Now players are entitled to roughly 1/2 of the league’s revenue so it’ll be redeployed elsewhere, but that messes up the entire market. That would create complete chaos in the marketplace.

Another thing is I believe it’s not just him I think they are always under pressure from the rest of the qbs and players in the league to get the most that they can which helps everyone else get more.

They over value their worth. Smart move is move Cook for picks.

What do you think Benford is worth in this marketplace? Cook? They just understand the marketplace. In a world where, Carlton Davis, Paulson Adebo and Charvarius Ward are getting $18M AAV and Derek Stingley is getting $30M AAV where does that leave Benford? $24M AAV? Is he “overvaluing his worth” if that’s what he’s asking for? No, he’s looking to the marketplace to see what’s he’s worth. Will the Bills pay that? I think so. If he was a free agent today, would someone else pay that? Absolutely. The same goes for Cook. I think it settles at $12.5M AAV. Maybe a little more after the Barkley deal but that feels fair. If Cook was a free agent today, would he get that? 100% he would. We can’t look at Bills players in a vacuum when determining their worth. The market dictates their worth.
