Moulds is the most dynamic receiver I've seen in the past 30 years for the Bills. Watch a highlight reel. 1 handed catches. contested. could track balls that weren't exactly where they were supposed to be.

One of my all time favorite Bills. I will never forget his one handed house call vs the Patriots ("Just give to um"). He was a YAC demon.

Eric Moulds was the man.  My favorite play of him wasn’t even a reception or TD it was when he blasted Teddy Bruschi on a block at New England in 2004.  God I hated those Patriot teams and Bruschi so much.

IDK why I never knew this or heard it brought up before on this forum, but Eric Moulds has the all-time receiving yard record in the playoffs. He put up 240 yards during 98 wildcard against the Dolphins.

I knew he was great, but I didn't know he held that record!

Was that the game where Andre Reed basically lost us the game? I was like 11 years old, but I remember him doing something that really screwed us, but haven't ever went back to revisit that when I was older.

I knew Moulds was very very good during his heyday, but I have done a deep dive into his career (I tend to spend the offseasons watching old Bills games and also specific Buffalo legends) and I didn’t realize the sheer dominance he had when given decent QB play.

By no means was he a slouch, he’s 5 yards short of a 10k career, but this guy really could’ve been up there with Reed/ Largent/ Reggie Wayne/ Holt. Those guys all had HOF passers. Are there any other examples of players like Moulds who had atrocious QBs and never achieved their full potential? Or players with crappy supporting casts in general that were much better than fans give them credit for ?

Then on the other end we have Gabe Davis with the most receiving Touchdowns in a playoff game (who can forget that?) Too bad he couldn’t stop dropping the ball. Gabe Davis could’ve been a Wayne Chrebet/Ed McCaffrey type legend in Western NY. Not insane stats, but some legendary plays and a long-tenured career & go-to target for Josh Allen. His toe-tap catches in a VERY close game against the Phillip Rivers-led Colts were instrumental in the Bills first playoff win in 25 years. A very important player that helped spark the Bills as a major force in the NFL.

Man, I agree with all of this. Great stuff C and K.

Gabe had some really high, highs, but a few too many lows as well. We may see him back someday, on the cheap.

I usually consider Moulds one of, if not THE best player of our drought years.  What could have bee, with the right QB.

The fact that Moulds averaged 20+ YPC on 67 receptions will always be incredible.

Thank you! And I agree. Moulds is easily the best of the dark times. And he put up with crappy QB play like a man. No complaining, no airing his issues to the media, no arrests. He was the opposite of a diva.

That’s reason for hope with Coleman.  On the other hand, Coleman performed at a Gabe Davis rookie season level too.  Hopefully Coleman follows more of the Moulds career trajectory rather than Gabe.

Coleman certainly has the physical skills to be great. He’s slow, but so was Moulds, Fitzgerald, Boldin, and Rice. The 2 things he showed that really gave me hope were the contested catches he made and the way he adjusted/ contorted his body to make said catches. The athleticism is there very clearly.

That was an insane WR draft the year Moulds came out.  Probably the best of all time - Keyshawn Johnson, Terry Glenn, Marvin Harrison, Moulds, Owens.  I'm sure I'm missing a couple.  Talent wise, I think Moulds was as good as any of them.  He would be a perfect fit for the 2025 Bills.

Sheesh, that is a heck of a class.

He was no doubt a great underrated player in his day.

There are though unfortunately some stories about him recently though that aren’t flattering in the slightest as a human being

Not only was he big, strong and explosive, but he also played with a mean streak.

Oh yeah, Moulds was one mean SOB with the ball in his hands. He would look for safeties to knock over.

We know. I think, here today, we are assessing the football player, on the field.

Unfortunately, I feel his personal history will cast a long shadow over his professional achievements.

He really was special.  That 2002 season where him and Peerless Price went off was one of the few bright spots of the drought era.  Speaking of the drought era, will someone eventually make it onto the wall of fame?  Personally, Kyle Williams is my all time favorite from that time but I'd have a tough time saying he was more dominant than Eric Moulds.  Elbert Dubenion is up there and granted it's not fair to do a direct stat comparison from 35 years earlier, but what makes Moulds less qualified?  Maybe just a victim of the poor teams he was part of vs Elbert's 2 AFL championships?

Don't forget this little gem: On April 4, 2006, Moulds was traded to the Houston Texans, in exchange for their fifth round draft pick in the 2006 NFL draft, which the Bills would eventually use on future All-Pro defensive tackle Kyle Williams.

a young moulds on this current bills team would break 200 yards and 3TDs in multiple playoff games.

the only guy of that era that i would put above him (two guys) at his best and healthy would be TO and moss.

He was awesome.  Still remember the catch he made in Bears OT game from Bledsoe that helped seal that game in 2002 I think.
