I am always looking to hear what podcasts people listen to, and whether they have any good recommendations.

I have pretty varied tastes (true crime, history, golf, fitness and nutrition, religion, food, Bills).

I can throw out a few I recommend in a bit, but any good ones that people are listening to?

I have not listened to any, but my wife is a fan of the TV show based ones, where an actor or two that were on a series, will talk about the show, episode by episode, giving behind the scenes type info, among other things.

I used to listen to the Joe Rogan Experience, however, that show has really declined lately.

I'm into more True Crime stuff these days........no idea the names of any of the podcasts, as i just roam the dial and listen to whatever case is going on.

Listen to Gilbert Gottfried's Amazing Colossa Podcast. Alrgough he died in 2022,his wife still keeps the channel running. They have ~400 podcasts from 2014-2022) and release one a week .

Also listen to Adam Carolla and Dr.Drew's podcast and Adam's regular podcast. Been watching that one on You Tube.

Buried Bones, Solved Murders, Crimes of the Century. I like the podcasts about old murders, some going back to the 18th century. I try not to dwell on what that says about me!😕

I will throw out some that I have really liked. I try to avoid the long meandering podcasts, and mostly look for ones that have episodes that are 40 minutes or less.

1) True Crime. Chameleon (Hollywood Con Queen); Betrayal; first season of Serial.

2) Sports/Fitness. Cover One (mostly just like their pre-game show); Golf IQ; Muscle for Life; Zoe Science and Nutrition (FYI, you have to listen to these with a great of salt, since everyone has their own philosophy when it comes to fitness and nutrition).

3) History. The Rest is History.

4) Pop stuff. Is a hot dog a sandwich?; Economics of every day life.

I'm gonna give you a little bit of a lesser known suggestion, but one I really enjoy:

Behind the Bastards, by Robert Evans

It tells the stories of the most infamous (and awful) people throughout history, in a very in depth way. Each episode picks one person and devotes an hour or two to telling their whole story, including stuff that you don't often read in the history books.

Warning: Despite talking about some of the most awful people ever, Evans is a very funny, joyful, irreverent guy, so the episodes are not downers. But also, if you like your history dry and by-the-numbers, this show is probably not for you.

There is an absolutely ENORMOUS library of episodes to pick from. I suggest just finding a person or situation that interests you and starting there. I recently listened to the Pat Tillman episode (not that HE'S awful, mind you. The episode is about the ret-conning of his story by the NFL and what ACTUALLY happened to him), and found it quite informative and enjoyable.

Fascinating stuff.

I am going to check this out. I have been reading with one of my kids these “wicked history” books, which seem similar. Short bios on infamous people in history. We just did Robespierre and Julius Caesar. They are really great (for kids and and adults too).

Caution: This podcast is not for children.

Decidedly.

Great topic MDK, thanks for starting it. Have a feeling it will be on the first page or two of OTW for quite a while.

A good one for sure, thanks for recommending. Listening to L. Ron Hubbard 3 parter now. What a dirtbag!

I have become a big fan of of Locked on Bills with Joe Marino. He really helps to cut through “fan noise” about what is happening with the Bills.

I wish he had a co-host. Need some more back and forth in that podcast.

He usually has the Locked On host from the Bills opponent on during the season

And the banged up bills Dr, plus he had a guy from cover 1 on the other day.

it’s been a while since I listened to him. But as I recall, those guys are on for smaller segments in the shows?

I do think there is a real benefit to the podcast duo. Just about every great podcast has that, even if the second person doesn’t say a lot. Helps to facilitate the conversation in a more natural and less scripted way.

it’s one of the reasons I tend to listen to Cover One more (though Cover One has its flaws too).
