SectionC3 Posted March 17 Posted March 17 The Economist reports that a beef shortage is on the way. Due in significant part to tariffs. This is gonna hit MAGA hard. Looks like carrion and more processed food are in MAGA’s future.

They do produce eggs in addition to noise. They also attract animals that think chickens are tasty.

I do question whether MAGA will be able to feed the chickens to make this enterprise work. I guess they could share Cheetos and meth with the chickens, but I’m not sure that’s a healthy diet for poultry. The better play would be to buy less processed food and use the savings to offset the cost of chicken feed. But that requires a discipline generally lacking in the MAGA movement. Just now, Wacka said: She died many years ago. Probably ate too much beef. She might not have that problem next year in America. 1

The chickens killed each other. Several weak ones were gone in the first couple weeks. Critters and snakes try to get in the coop. It needs regular cleaning. The feed ain’t cheap. We ended up giving them away.

It is a huge headache. I used to see some running around in OP here and there. Not anymore. Not worth the work. This is a serious point though: if things keep on going south in the economy, it sadly might be for a lot of people. 1

yall Posted March 17 Posted March 17 Isn't beef production a massive strain on the environment? Wouldn't a shortage that led to consumption of other nutrients ultimately be a good thing? 1

So now the Libnuts are "complaining about the price of beef" even though they shouldn't be eating any, if they're truly worried about climate change. Fits right in with Libnuts attacking Tesla EV owners! They don't know which way to charge next. 1 1 1

Any thing in life worth having will involve some version of hard work or sacrifice, but convenience is king in America !! Very few modern day Americans would have survived 150 years ago . That would make a great reality TV show, drop a modern day American into a situation the same as America in the 40's let's say . All else is forgotten when you can drive to Walmart and get your eggs only to b**ch about the price that is caused by a disease then blame can be placed on something or someone other than the cause .
Doc Posted March 18 Posted March 18 There was an article about why eggs aren’t a problem in Canada but they are here in the US. One of the reasons is that the “free range” hippie stuff has caused a lot of chickens to get infected. Also, we have much larger chicken farms than they do so (because we have 8 times the population) if one farm gets infected it’s far fewer chickens being killed.

Do you raise chickens? Livestock? If not, shut up. We tried. It wasn’t economically feasible nor worth our time. If we had to do it, we could. As it is, we get our eggs at the farmers market every Saturday from neighbors who know us. We’d buy meat there except I don’t like grass fed meat. For a while, we got raw milk by owning a share in a cow and made our own cheese. Mozzarella is easy. Other types are difficult. 😥 The Btw, Canada has no egg shortage. Do you know why? You were listening to npr yesterday. Many of the farmers selling at farmers markets are “hippies”. Their chickens are largely unaffected. The million plus chicken farms are the biggest cause.
