Fleezoid Posted March 18 Posted March 18 Mostly Scotch / Irish for me. Was passing through Ireland several years ago, sitting in a Dublin airport bar. There was a group of about 4 Irishmen sitting at a table near me. Couldn't understand a stinking word they were sayin'. Quote

Orlando Buffalo Posted March 20 Posted March 20 I always knew I was at least half Irish but I have two great parents who I thought were basically German. Did the DNA test thing a few years ago and I am basically 95% Irish and 5% German. Most people in Ireland have less Irish DNA then me and all of my ancestors came over 125 years ago or more. Quote

You know the Celts migrated from Central Europe, Switzerland, Southern Germany area to the Island of Ireland (Hibernia in Latin/Roman)... To probably get away from the Romans https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Celts So IMO, thet are all the same. 😆 Quote
Whites Bay Posted March 20 Posted March 20 I don't know if it's changed, but the law USED to be that if you could prove lineage to two generations, you could get Irish citizenship, and subsequently an Irish passport. That means providing (in the case of a grandparent) the birth/marriage/death (if relevant) certificate for the relative, among other documents. It takes some time and money, but eventually you'll get a passport. I know this to be true, because I did it back in the 1990s. I have dual citizenship in Ireland. And as someone who has spend a lot of years flying to Europe, it REALLY helps to enter Customs & Immigrations through the "EU Passport" line instead of the "Non-EU Passport" line. Quote
