I heard something on a podcast the other day that there are more people in the USA with Irish DNA than in Ireland!

Ireland has about 7 million people.  The population of Ireland has yet to recover from highs reached before the potato blight.

There may be more than 7 million people in NY state with a McSomething or O'Something last name.

Me.

Mom's side. She's a red-headed Irish gal with the surname Millar.

I'm definitely a mutt, but the Irish is one of the more prominent things, I think.

That said, I couldn't care any less about St Patrick's day.

I’m almost all Irish, with a hint of Portuguese I’m told. A few other things sprinkled in according to my sister who was tested, but mostly Irish.

So imagine my surprise when my wife’s Lebanese nieces start traveling all over the US and Europe to do something called Irish Dancing. Goofy looking stuff! I don’t know if I wasn’t properly introduced to my heritage, or if I just got lucky and was sitting at the cool Irish kids’ table during that period.

I am a mutt, no Irish that I know of but 1/4 Scottish (supposedly).  Who knows how much of anything any of us is? People have fooled around since the dawn of time. For all I know maybe there was some green cheating in my lineage somewhere.

My hair is/was medium brown (before it started turning gray and falling out). I grew out a beard once in college and it was scraggly and very red. Long brown hair, blue eyes and a VERY RED beard. There is a pic of it on the digital picture frame in our family room. Every once in a while it will pop up when someone is visiting and they notice it. The reaction is generally “WTF??? Who is….is that YOU?”   😂

My wife calls both of us Irish ***** mutts (since both have Irish and Italian backgrounds) but I also have German and can't recall what else she has.

Def Irish here, from both sides, my 23 and me showed I am basically from all over the UK, with french and german mixed in, but that should not be a surprise based upon their histories.

I think it was 95% northwest european which is what they called it.

I guess I'm a super-mutt as not one of my grandparents were born in the USA. Both of my grandparents on my father's side were born in Poland and on my mother's side one was from Ireland and one was from Wales. As a matter of fact my father was born in Poland too but they all came over here when he was only 3 years old.

I remember my grandmother from Wales regularly ribbing my grandfather that he was just an "Irishman wannabe" because his parents moved from Ireland to Wales shortly after he was born.

Zilch... But they made my last name sound Irish so my grandfather & his brothers, my father too, could get a job on the railroad.

It's actually the name of a town in Poland.😆🤣
