It matters less when you have two guys on the outside that can quickly get open. If you have two elite players up for new contracts in their mid 20's at a premium position you pay them. If you have a chance to trade for one without giving up significant draft compensation you do it. It's why I wanted the Bills to trade for Metcalf and that lack of a move I will always point to if we keep coming up short again of a Super Bowl with Allen in his prime. Our two best WR's are Shakir and Palmer? I guess. Maybe Coleman can magically learn to create separation this off-season? Pathetic job by Beane in never replacing Diggs. There’s a very really possibility Burrow will never put together a better season than the one he just had, and he couldn’t cover enough warts to even snag the 7 seed. They had to sign Chase, they should have traded Higgins and signed Hendrickson, they have to hit on defensive draft picks in a big way. 1 Quote

Chase will still be on a relatively cheap contract given a player of his caliber for the next two years by extending him this offseason. He's making $36m (not $41)/year over the next five. My guess is they front loaded the Higgins contract and they'll be able to move on from him with not much dead money after two seasons if they wanted to. That's when Chase's cap hit will kick in. Even re-signing Hendrickson is doable if they choose. They have to work on strengthening their o-line and rebuilding their defense in the draft though. The main problem is the Bengals have drafted heavily on defense the last couple of years knowing that this was coming. Eight of their day one and two picks have been on the defense and only two on the offense. It's not looking good for their two first round defensive picks (Myles Murphy and Daxton Hill). DJ Turner and Cam-Taylor Britt have been mah at best. Jordan Battle initially played will at safety but he's somewhat regressed last year. Carter was a bust at DE and already traded. If their DT's drafted in the 2nd and 3rd last year don't work out then the middle of that defensive line is in trouble. On top of all that, they may have fired one of the best d-coordinators in the league because he was made the scapegoat of a defensive roster devoid of talent. Man with No Name Posted 16 hours ago Posted 16 hours ago They're a house of cards, but still very dangerous. that 10-7 team that just needs to lock in for 1 month, and they are winning sb. always simultaneously on the cusp of not making the playoffs AND winning the super bowl. Quote

Ya love to see it. Agreed...I mean they havent made the playoffs in 2 years doing this. Miami didn't make the playoffs with huge deals for Hill, Waddle, and Tua and they have no playoff wins since all playing together and only made the playoffs as a 6th or 7th seed. Philly rebuilt their trenches and defense and added the best RB in football to get back to, and finally win, the SB. They dethroned the reigning back to back champs in a dominant fashion by dominating the trenches. Its astonishing to me how teams, and even so many people around here, just don't understand this undeniable fundamental fact of winning football. You wanna pay Chase, I get it...but to make Higgins he highest paid WR2 in history makes no sense. If Burrow is so good, he shouldn't need 2 WR's taking up nearly $70M in cap space. Pay Chase and fill in guys around him that compliment him and the offense via low cost veterans and through the draft. This is why you don't let your QB be your GM. I am going to LMFAO if they miss the playoffs again this year...and their division isn't getting any easier this year, nor is the AFC. 1 1 Quote

That isn't what Barkley was paid this year when they won the SB. The Eagles are losing pieces this year as part of signing Barkley...and will Barkley hold up again is always a question given he has struggled with that in the past. And this list is NOT why they won the SB...they won the SB because they had the #1 defense and arguably the best OL in football. And that has more to do with them drafting well then "paying" offensive skill players. The offense didn't even have to do a lot, and Barkley did nothing in the Super Bowl. Dominating the trenches is what won them the SB and its not really debatable. 1 Quote
Since1981 Posted 13 hours ago Posted 13 hours ago I’ve felt we’ve missed this since John Brown for Josh. The Bengals vs. Bills highlight how to allocate offensive spending—WR vs. OL—a solid case study. I’d bet Josh has emphasized OL as a priority. Curious to see how the Bengals approach beating the Ravens. Quote

An elite QB shouldn't need a $70M/year WR duo. Should have extended Chase, traded Tee, and spent the money and draft pocks on defense/ o line. And they are letting a DE go when the defense is their Achilles heel. Quote

It isn’t impossible to build a half competent defense thru the draft and that’s about all they will need to be a very hard out. On the plus side they will give the Ravens problems. I still think Baltimore is the best team in that division. 1 Quote
Matt_In_NH Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago I did not think Brown had it in him to do this......still they have had these guys for the last two years and have 0 playoff games.....they are dangerous but they lack talent elsewhere on the roster. We will see what happens with Hendrickson.....I bet he gets moved. Quote
