The melt down in thread is wild.  Beane is one of the 5 best GMs in the league and now people are melting down because a player he signed in which he could have no prior knowledge of, is suspended for something that happened prior to them signing here.

Beane has still had an excellent offseason.  Larry and his 1 year contract suddenly missing 6 unexpected games doesn’t change that.

The dumbest part of the meltdown is we are going to draft multiple dlineman better than the two backups we signed lol

Same applies at corner

Dude you're really lowering the bar for your opinion of our DL over the last several years. I'll go on record as saying both Ed and Greg are overpaid based on their production. Maybe sacks are so yesterday, less nuance.

I really hate this take and the flack that Greg gets on this site.

If he was allowed to just pin his ears back and go after the QB every down he'd have his 12+ sacks a year.

That's not what he is asked to do in this defense, he sets the edge, engages and disrupts plays in both oppositions run and pass game.  Getting double digit TFLs every year is way way overlooked and dismissed here

Also it's like people don't watch the games.  Our coach's philosophy is to keep people fresh so there are a lot of times throughout the year in 3rd and long situations and Greg isn't even on the field.  I don't agree with it as Greg should be out there on those plays 99% of time but again this is another reason why this guy ended up with 8 sacks and not double digits

To be fair, I've never seen a GM sign two guys to contracts knowing they were going to miss the first six games for PED suspensions.  Hoecht I can understand because they knew well before hand and it's a multi-year deal.  Ogunjobi on the other hand they could've nixed the deal completely.  I still don't know why they didn't as he hasn't exactly lit it up the last couple of years.  From an outside perspective it's a clown show though and somewhat removes the tightly run efficient operation perception that McBeane's built over the years.

This has to be one of the dumbest things I've ever seen done by an organization in my entire life.

You sign a guy to a $24M contract with foreknowledge that he will be getting suspended for 6 games because of PED's? A no-named guy at that. Then, not only do you sign one guy being suspended for 6 games over PED's, you leave the contract on the table for the 2ND guy to sign even though he's going to be suspended 6 games for PED's? Then you want to justify it by talking about how the FA crop is dwindling down?

In the history of the NFL, show me where someone, anyone has done this before. You don't think other FO's are sitting back like, "wtf are these guys doing in Buffalo?" This idiocy is on another level.

These were questionable signings for the money without the suspensions. These are rotational part time players with no history of exceptional play. Now they each miss the first 6 games? Even if the Bills had a lot of cap space and money to throw around it would be dumb. But the Bills are up against the cap and are over paying players that are suspended. Beane has lost his mind.
Huge waste of money on a tight budget when you have holes to fill and your own players to re sign.

This is unfortunate and comical, but for all those casting stones, if there was a mandatory 100% screening of the bills team today, how many do you think would pass?

i think it is commendable when athletes say they are being transparent and accountable....while being basically on paid administrative leave to the tune of like 900k per week

Or we bust on those draft picks and the defense is a complete sieve again.

Big crap sandwich here.   Beane had an interesting decision with Ogunjobi but he made his choice.   It sucks but the same time nothing matters as long as they make the playoffs then things matter. Understand playoffs are not a given but they can overcome missing these guys for 6 games.

I thought his comments about Larry were inappropriate during that press conference. You should never mention that there’s nothing else you can do now because the free agent crop has dwindled. How do you think that makes him feel? Especially when the deal is not yet official. The whole situation is just sad. Hopefully they can win the majority of those first six games and get a nice boost after that.

Nice lineup and love those picks (though not sure any of those will fall to us where we would be looking to draft them), just wondering who gets cut when the 2 PED boys come back? 12 Dlineman isn't happening.  I suppose potential injuries in those first 6 games could be the answer

Injuries aside, who they keep will be based on how players perform in 6 regular season games - you can't get a better indicator than that.

Hoecht is a lock to return to the team after suspension, but Ogunjobi to me isn't as clear cut.  Would they keep him over someone who is playing well in real games based just on what he showed in TC/preseason.

Let's be real here. Practically every professional athlete is on some kind of PED, and you're kidding yourself if you think otherwise.

The problem here is that they got caught. I guarantee you the majority of the Bills (and every other team in the NFL) are on something and everyone looks the other way.

True statement, but the mob will reply with “ oh, no, not our beloved Bills! You shut yo mouf!” 😂

Whatever happened to “if you ain’t cheating, you ain’t trying!?!

Some in that mob actually think they can do a better job than Beane. Madden fans.

They don't get paid for games during suspension.

Then they should be able to appeal.

That's not how it works.  It's a strict liability system-- you got something in there that the test picks up, you are suspended, no matter how innocuous.

They don’t get salary checks.   All bonuses are untouched typically.

Correct.  Guaranteed money is guaranteed.  But given the reported cap savings of several million dollars as a result of the suspensions, it ain't nothing.

And the salary that isn't paid won't count against the cap.

So the cap hit on both of the is reduced by 35% since they're missing that much of the season.

We will win the majority, just not all of them and it will cost us the 1 seed
