Jackson is not an upgrade on Douglas.  He played for Carolina last season who had a terrible secondary allowing the most passing yards and passing TDs in the NFL last season.  The guy wasn’t even good enough to earn the starters job there.  Ultimately he started 3 games in the 9 he played.

This years CB class is solid and there will be a good one there at 30 which honestly might be the plan now and add a DL in the 2nd round. We still have Ingram as well.  We also have Hardy who actually showed decent chops at outside CB in the preseason last year.

Im honestly not even sure Dane is a lock to be on the roster I’d say it’s likely for sure but if a mid to late round DB or Hardy shows out he could be let go

Makes sense. We are going to draft a CB round 1 and again later on. Dane is here for camp and maybe a depth role if he is lucky.

We gonna draft a CB and Dane will start because he’s more familiar with the ***** playbook.

As I recall he was injured early and tried to play through it.  It is tough to give him a decent evaluation because Carolina was such a dumpster fire overall.  We'll just have to wait and see how he looks in preseason.

I get nervous this regime wouldn't play a high rookie over him...because we seen them do exactly that.

Well the highly regarded rookie was Elam so there is prob good reason for that

Personally, I don't think it was probably very likely for the Bills to sign a big time Edge AND a big time CB, especially with Benford's extension looming. I may have WANTED it to happen, but it probably wasn't likely.

If given the choice between spending 12.6 on Bosa and signing a baseline/floor guy like Jackson or spending 12.6 on a big time corner and signing lesser edge, I'm taking the Bosa option. Defensive line was/is by far the thing that was most in need of an upgrade this offseason.

That having been said, I think the signing of Dane Jackson makes it so that the Bills don't have to take a corner in the 1st round. They'll surely draft one or two of them, but I don't think it needs to be a first round guy. I think and hope that they feel the flexibility to take a D-lineman or receiver or safety or whatever if that player is higher on their board than whatever corners are left at 30.

I think, for instance, that Jackson vs round 2/3 rookie vs Ingram/Hardy/Couch is a perfectly reasonable camp battle. You're hoping that your drafted guy or one of the youngsters can beat out Jackson, but if he doesn't, you know that you've gotten capable play out of Jackson in the past.

The baseline/floor at CB2 has now been established. Draft pick(s) incoming, but not necessarily from round 1.

Can play a little.  In a more zone/quarters secondary he is ok.  I think Cb is pricey and scheme fit questions for many.  1 of the first 3 picks should be corner.  Think they can find one on day 2 and be happy.  If they like one enough at 30 im fine with it.  Jackson is a fine player.  I think the Bills play tomorrow Ingram might start above him.

If he is going to compete for a starters job, Beane has screwed up.

Take a deep breath, the world didn’t just end, we will need at minimum three CBs that can start, right now we have two to include Dane, we will be hunting down another one or two, now exhale…,

The regime traded up for Elam 5 months that point.
