I had a feeling this might be coming.

He's rich beyond the dreams of avarice and has no need to beat himself up any more for a game that's always been more a career than a passion for him.

I can see him walking away and spending his time travelling the world or engaging in some kind of unique hobby he genuinely loves.

Good dude who had some suck ass luck last year; I hope he finds joy in his freedom.

I don't know if that is what they meant by done, interesting interpretation on your part.

I'm hoping after a period of time when he gets to talk to normal everyday people for a bit, that it may drive home that one more year (and at this point it's just 10 months) at even a Dhopish  $6M, it really isn't chump change.  It'll be the highest paying job for the rest of his life.

Even for a soft spoken guy with other interests, I don't see tuning the page on that quite yet.  And for a bonus if he's part of bringing a Lombardi to Buffalo he will have folk hero status around those parts.  I would think the FO would want him as part of a rotation Palmer/Cooper/Coleman

He's made over 100 million dollars in his career. Why would another few million bucks matter to a guy who may not care that much about material things?

He's also an introvert who simply doesn't care what other people think, so becoming a folk hero probably holds no attraction for him.

Ascribing our own motivations to a guy whose desires bear no resemblance to our own is misguided, imo.

I'm sure the FO would be glad to have him back and likely offered him a contract along the lines of what you suggested. But whether he accepts it is up to him, not them.

Yeah, Amari is successful by any measure.

It wouldn’t surprise me at all if he’s perfectly content with his whole career at this point.

And honestly there’s nothing wrong with him making money, being very good at his job and calling it a career.

It’s a different discussion about how good he could have been if it was more than a job to him, I lean that he could have been a HoFer but as an independent observer, I don’t care. That’s up to him and him alone.

At first he may not care -which was my point in bringing up speaking with others.  When talking about the idea of making around $10M for a 9 month stint prior to retirement (in your 30s), over 99% of the people on the planet would advise you to take that deal - it's not just my motivations.

I hope the FO has a contract offer out to him to consider.  Would be nice if amount it takes to beat the Bills offer triggers a comp pick to the Bills.  But I prefer the Bills get Amari back, I think he will be a better player in 2025 than he was in 2024 and a lot better than a 2025 rookie.  I think the #1 seed is obtainable this year and we've already had one setback with the PEDs.

I liked the trade for Amari. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that our offense opened up and improved after he got here.

His lack of production was disappointing. I think it’s a combo of a broken wrist and Brady not really setting up the downfield passing game. We played the short, intermediate game and then every once in a while it was WR go deep.

I’d take him back on a cheap deal, but I really think we need a burner who can catch on the outside. We’ve got plenty of guys who can’t separate.

he was another dud old vet WR signing by Beane.

"he's drawing all the coverage"....lol, good times

Versus what for 2025?  Shakir type rookie production (161 yds, 1 TD)?

Even if they spent the 1st pick, which I would doubt, get Coleman production (556 yds, 4TDs)- which is pretty much what Cooper had?

Yeah I never bought that idea.

The two games we struggled shakir got hurt and it was vs Baltimore and the Texans. Two outstanding defenses.

If they kept mvs, the season would've been the same imo.

other teams are able to draft decent starting WRs.  Maybe Pegula could pay, say, Les Snead to tutor Beane on scouting college WRs.  Or the guy In Cincy.

Beane is infatuated with journeymen who are at their end--guys who are in the last gasp of their careers.  He can't fathom anything else.  His entire Bills scouting/drafting career has yielded 2 guys still on the roster: Shakir and Coleman.

Yet, for some strange reason, the Bills put up better offensive numbers after he arrived.

Kinda felt arbitrary tho.

They were lighting up everyone except Baltimore and Houston.

I think they kinda panicked and released mvs which I didn't like

I’m not sure he means Cooper wants to retire.  It sound like he’s saying he’s washed.

Does Amari even want to play football anymore?  Seemed like he couldn’t have cared less.

He's just a different type of personality. Not the usual alpha you get from the #1 caliber X WR. He battled through a wrist injury instead of getting recommended surgery. He wouldn't have done that if he didn't care about his career.

All that being said I'm not interested in bringing him back. This team is cursed with 30+ year old players, it simply never works out in our favor. Last year they had to make a mid-season trade for an outside WR to give themselves any kind of fighting chance, so I don't begrudge Beane for the trade even though it didn't work out quite as well as I hoped. But he really needs to start investing high draft picks into the position on an annual basis so he's not stuck making those desperation moves.

This draft is known to be weak at WR but I hope the value matches up with one of our first 3 picks. There is a realistic scenario where that isn't the case, so if that happens maybe Cooper is still sitting around unsigned after the draft. We're already past the primary phase of FA, so a player of his age and coming off a down year might be better served waiting to sign until May when at least a couple teams will be desperate to fill out their room. In that scenario I'd be fine with it.

I hear the need for a nasty "speed" wr to keep defenses honest.  We passed on Worthy last year in favor of Coleman. But of late Josh; despite his ridiculous arm talent; has settled into a smart "take what the defense gives you" passer, coupling that with both his scrambling ability and a solid running game and excellent protection from his O line. Since we have Samuel on the roster, is that still a need?  We had Isabella, another elite speed guy on the practice squad most of last year and rarely used him.

Can confirm: Introverts definitely do care what other people think 🤣 Things are starting to make sense 🤔

There are at least 1 billion people in this world who think they are an introvert but are not.

I'm pretty sure you're one of them.
