This was news to me and makes me a little cautious about the Bills giving him a huge contract. I wonder if Beane feels the same.

Didn't see it posted anywhere else:

--

Cornerback Asante Samuel Jr., who landed on injured reserve in Week 6 and missed the remainder of the season, said he has been dealing with “stinger symptoms.” According to the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, stingers “are injuries that occur when nerves in the neck and shoulder are stretched or compressed after an impact” and can feel like “an electric shock or lightning bolt down the arm.”

“Just wanted to make sure for the long run I’ll be good, make sure my health overall is good,” Samuel said. “I wish I could have been out there with the team. It was killing me not to be out there with those guys. But I had to make sure my health was good.”

Samuel said he was “born with” this ailment. This season, the symptoms first flared up during practice in Week 1. He played four games after that first instance. The symptoms flared up again after a collision in practice before a Week 6 game at the Denver Broncos, according to Samuel. He said he has felt symptoms in both shoulders, but the left shoulder has been worse than the right one.

Samuel said he expects to be ready for the start of the offseason program. He is a pending unrestricted free agent. He said he wants to return to the Chargers. “I love this team,” he said. “I love this city. And I love everybody around here.”

At this point I don’t think Samuel is getting a big long term contract. Probably around 1 year 10-12 million but I have concerns about him for sure even from when he was at FSU.

I didn't know was in talks with him but if he was this will be something I would think he would take a step back from especially given what he knows about this type of injury because of Mica Hyde .

I’m guessing teams are trying to get a 1 year deal to see how the shoulders hold up, and he’s trying to get a longer contract with a sizable chunk in guarantees.

Makes sense for him, makes sense for the teams. Tough spot for him to be sure. In the end if he’s not offered a 2 or 3 year deal he’ll have to sign the one year and depending on how much he knows that might be his last one. But now I get why it’s taking so long.

Damn… okay then. Perhaps most likely to sign back with the Chargers at a bit of a discount… if they’ll even have him. Hmmm….

I just want us to sign someone serviceable for CB2 so we can go BPA in the draft.

Even if this wasn't a red flag, I questioned if Samuel was the kind of Cornerback a coach like McDermott would want. Samuel is like a Poor Man's Deion Sanders. A guy who is pretty good to very good at times in coverage, but is a pretty poor tackler who seems to want to avoid hitting. Which this ailment he was born with may explain.
