The draft value chart says 109 + 170 + 173 would get us to 87. Then we'd still have a 4th, a 5th, and two 6ths. I suspect the Bills will be trading up more than once 1 4 Quote

I don't know, for me he always kind of looked like he didn't belong out there. Going back to his very first preseason game where he had one nice pass breakup and the camera cut to McDermott on the sidelines clapping. Even on that pass breakup nothing about it looked natural, you could tell he was thinking through his coaching and not just playing. He made some plays in his limited snaps but he never looked comfortable out there. I think the NFL is just too fast for him and the development is never going to happen. I put the failure on the scouting, not the coaching. Beane got desperate for a CB and forced himself to see potential that wasn't there. 3 Quote

gonzo1105 Posted 12 hours ago Author Posted 12 hours ago So basically if you look at the picks and the trade charts , Elam was valued at a high to mid 6th rounder Quote

Logic Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago I'm just sitting here thinking about the Cowboys trading a 4th for Jonathan Mingo and a 5th (albeit in a pick swap) for Kaiir Elam this year. I generally favor giving a second chance to physically gifted, highly drafted players who flamed out with their first teams. But it seems like the Cowboys are giving up a bit too much in draft compensation to take those swings. Ah well. The Bills benefit. 1 Quote

But one thing that he wasn't was scared. After 4 years of being repeatedly castrated by McDermott, he was absolutely terrified of his own shadow by the time he left here. Maybe it was a poor pick as a result of failed scouting, but the Bills coaches did nothing but make the whole situation worse. 1 1 Quote

Should free up $2.7M Good Job by Beane to get something for him Agreed...still think he has potential, but it was clear it wasn't happening here in this scheme. Good low risk, high reward move by Dallas while Bills still getting decent value back for a guy who hasn't done a whole lot yet. 1 Quote

So at least we got one starting CB that year though the values on-field were flipped. Getting rid of Elam was not a surprise at all. I was expecting him to be cut due to lack of interest but I had forgotten about teams like the Cowboys Edited 11 hours ago by Fan in Chicago Quote
Augie Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago (edited) Sorry if I missed it, but how much does this affect the cap? EDIT: it just posted above. Edited 11 hours ago by Augie Quote

Ideally, if we could package our 1st round pick along with our 4th round picks and our 5th round picks in series of trades so we end up with 4 2nd round picks, Beane would be a hero since this is projected to be a very deep and value laden 2nd round. Scoring a starter for each of our lines, a starting WR and a starting DB all in the 2nd round would be a dream draft. 1 Quote

Albany,n.y. Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago I guess that means that we weren't planning on picking up his 5th year option. 😄 Quote
WotAGuy Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago Beane gonna have a hard time finding someone who loves 4th and 5th rounders as much as him if he plans to move up at all. Quote

Honestly may be one of the worst 1st round picks ever Every franchise has an Elam level bust at least once in the last 5 years. It's disappointing but not crippling. It does become a real problem if you stack consecutive 1st round busts. We need a lot more from Kincaid and Coleman starting this year. If those two bust right after Elam then Beane will have some very difficult questions to answer. 2 Quote
