You know this board will melt down when Elam gets an INT in Dallas.

It strikes me that we had no idea what to do with him, as posted up thread he was better as a rookie than this past season, me thinks it was a combo of coaching and the player understanding what he was asked to do,

I'd be looking to package two 5ths to move up into the 3rd round. The draft value chart says 109 + 170 + 173 would get us to 87. Then we'd still have a 4th, a 5th, and two 6ths.

Hey, Diggs, albeit from the Vikings, Milano, and Shakir were all 5th rd pics, and Benford was a 6th.  If you want to count Dane, a 7th.  Oh and Teller was a 5th.  A 5th is a deal for Elam, who was a bust.  A 7th is gravy.  The now 10 picks, is power for BB to keep moving up.

Make no mistake, Elam was a tremendous BUST and he hurt Buffalo in numerous ways, including the AFCCG.  It wasn’t for lack of trying though - he just was not a very good fit for the defense.

With that being said, I do feel bad for this young man.  After the playoff win against Pittsburgh where he struggled but redeemed himself a bit with a pick.  You thought that maybe it would give him the confidence to turn the corner.  But in the locker room he sarcastically said something like “I’m just a bust.”  That really showed where his mindset was.

I think this is a pick you almost certainly put on Brandon Beane…or whoever was responsible for drafting him.  Not only did they draft him in round one but they traded up.  Just terrible all around.  The redeeming part is that he did find a starting CB in R6, but man - imagine if both CB’s were good.

The funny thing is that at one time there was an “Elam hive” of fans who believed McDermott didn’t like Elam and that’s why he wasn’t getting reps.  Then they watched him play…the hive went silent!

If you believe in the draft pundits, most thought he was a late first to early 2nd round player.  Sometimes these picks don’t work out - it happens to every team.

If I was petty I would bring back the thread of me getting roasted when I hated the picked.

Since Beane historically has been better in day 3 I'm digging all those picks.

So is the 5th round of this year's draft like...JUST the Bills now?

In all seriousness, getting a 6th for 5th pick swap AND a future 7th for Elam is a huge win. Thank God for Jerruh "glory hole" Jones!

I'm only half joking when I say (especially in this draft where the top-end talent appears to be weak), they should go ahead and use all of those picks and draft multiple players (defensive backs in particular). Throw enough you-know-what against the wall, and maybe something will stick!

After all, the miss on Elam was somewhat salvaged in that same draft by acquiring Benford in the 6th.

Call it like it is and its pretty evident a lot of what I complained about with Beane has cost us a Super Bowl.

I'm for trading all our picks to end up with 3-4 higher picks. Quality over quantity.

Gives them some options for sure.  If there is someone that they really like at back of 3rd they have ammo to move up.  Alternatively, they could spend those 5ths to move each of their 4ths earlier in that round.

Im more happier saving the $2.5m of guaranteed money tbh

Oh, i'll take anything. Even if it was just the future 7th - that would have been fine with me.

It's just to say that people who are like "wow - that's a lot!" probably aren't realizing it's (possibly) literally the 1st pick in the 6th Round for one of the picks at the bottom of the 5th.
