fun to think about the athletecism that a Bishop-Forrest battery would bring. Never had that much speed back there under McDermott.

I would still anticipate the Bills draft a S in the later rounds as I believe Rapp, Hamlin and Forrest contracts all expire after next season.

I would almost bet on a Day 3 pick.

He is now the fastest safety for the Bills, just a bit faster than Cole Bishop.  Rapp and Hamlin are sloth-like.  He came out of college needing to get stronger and more physical, but he's had time to develop, so he should be able to compete to start.

Depend son how the board drops.  If a S "sticks out" BBB may pull the trigger earlier.

I kind of meant IF they don't take one on Day 2, Day 3 is a sure thing.

I would think they would like to wait until Day 3.

He looks like a perfect fit at FS in McD's system.

McBeane clearly had their eye on this guy, and Washington wasn't using him last year- why didn't we trade a late round pick for him at the deadline? He certainly could've helped our playoff Defense.

Can he play DT ??

I don't know a ton about him except that he loves to run and hit on special teams.

I think he is a free safety at least which was a need. Mainly a backup for the Commanders?

I like my safeties have instincts. Anyone knows how is he in that department?

For reference, Hyde was always considered an instinctual player, even when he was used as CB in GB, just not fast enough. Poyer was not all that in general but McDermott must had seen something and gave him a 4 year contract right out of the bat (Hyde got a 6 year deal btw).

The fact they are giving him a 1 year deal tells me at this point, they want to see how he functions in Buffalo.

Exactly.  Many on here were whining and bashing the Hyde and Poyer signings at the time.  This kid might end up being something.

Poyer yes, but IIRC the mood was mostly positive about the Hyde signing. I had never heard of him at the time, but I remember a lot of posters in the FA thread loving the signing and saying he was always around the ball in GB regardless of where he lined up.

For the record, I’ve never heard of this Darick Forrest guy either. But like @Logic, I’m very willing to give our FO the benefit of the doubt on pro safety prospects.

I went back some scouting reports and they are all over the place…off the few highlights it looks like he has a strong acumen for zone and working through progressions etc.

Sounds like Donte Whitner

Na Donte whitner sucked all the way around. Can't tell you how many times he came flying back first onto a pile of an already tackled player and coming up celebrating like he won the SB

Bills don’t have a lot of “prospects” in the secondary so to speak. Bishop is a big one but after that it’s a bit lackluster. Hamlin and Forest are on one year deals too. So I suspect the Bills will likely invest two picks (potentially one very high) in the secondary.

This is a sneaky good signing.  If he can stay healthy, he will improve the team's depth at a minimum.  He may very well send #3 back to free agency. I'm surprised Washington didn't try to keep him.

Hamiln plays Special Teams, so if Forest takes a starting job and puts Hamlin on the bench there's still a role for Hamlin.

I hope it's Forest and Bishop as the starters.

I hope Bishop locks down a spot. I think he looked a little shaky when he got some starts later in the season, but I think he started to look a lot better by the time the playoffs came around. I think his issue was just getting a better feel for the game and the more snaps he got the better he looked. I hope with the snaps he took and an off-season to work on it he locks down a starting spot.

Forest/Rapp/Hamlin locking down the other spot I'm fine any of them. But considering how high of a pick he was and the potential he flashed Bishop not locking down a starting spot would be a disappointment.

Ideally having Forest and Bishop with Hamlin as a reserve and Rapp flexing around as a "big nickel" seems to make the most sense.
