I actually found run support to be the thing our safeties struggled the most with.

Rapp is certainly not afraid to hit somebody! Fingers crossed that it’s one of their guys! 🤞

They were pretty damn good in beating baltimore in the playoff game.

Oh yea that is true it’s def possible they turned the corner especially in bishop’s case.  I think Hamlin is what he is at this point

The Bills ate going to clearly target CB’s in the first and second day of the draft.

I've always felt if you're going to start a rookie, CB is probably one of the easiest positions to play a rookie so I'd be OK with having a rookie start opposite Benford.

I assume Douglas hasn't yet signed with anyone?  If so could still see him back here on lower priced deal

Dude's not even 26 yet.  Lost his starting job due to injury.  great pickup

So that must make him about 5 years older than Edmunds!

Micah Hyde had also been one of my favorite players going back to his GB days. When we signed him I yelled to my now wife "WE GOT HIM MICAH HYDE. YESSSSSSSS"

She just stared at me and now she owns his jersey

The Hyde singing was in 2017 considered to be by most fans a very good signing. The Poyer one was mostly panned (myself included). Poyer was a fairly big contract given to a player with not that many starts under his belt. Fans were dead wrong on Poyer but they loved Hyde

In the 8 years of the McBeane era, the Bills have used a draft pick on exactly one safety. In 8 years.

Anybody that thinks they are going to use another high pick on a safety for the second year in a row isn't paying attention.

I see your point.

I was thinking of the angle that the safety skillset is difficult to project beyond the top 1 or 2 in the draft. Very few of the highly projected safeties amount to high end players.

2014: 18 - Calvin Pryor (NJJ), 27 - Deonne Bucanon (ARI), 30 - Jimmy Ward (SF)

2015: 27- Damaris Randall (GB)

2016: 14 - Karl Joseph (Oak), 17 - Keanu Neal (ATL),

2017: 6 - Jamal Adams (NJJ), 15 - Malik Hooker (IND), 25 Jabril Peppers (CLE)

2018: 11 - Minkah Fitzpatrick (PIT), 17 - Darwin James (SD), 28 - Terrel Edmunds (PIT)

2019: 21- Darnell Savage (GB), 27 - Jon Abraham (Oak)

2022: 14 - Kyle Hamilton (BAL), 31 - Daxton Hill (Cin), 32 - Lewis Cine (MIN)

I think there are maybe 4 solid top starters in that group. Hamilton, Fitzpatrick, Joseph, Ward.

That's 11 years of players and 16 first round players.

What’s with all these injury plagued players. It’s like Beane is trying to catch lightning in a bottle. Pretty weird since this has been the Bills number 1 problem for the past 5 years. I understand the Bosa signing, that one makes sense. I guess because they have a chance to get great production at a lower cost, but still it could backfire on him tremendously.

The bosa concern makes sense to me but I think Forrest is more ‘falling out of favor after missing some time’ than injury prone

Ertz also makes an appearance in a thread.

what was sneaky about it?

Meaning, he's not someone that was on any of our radars. Dude sat for a year, and was forgotten by most.

Wow, good homework. I hadn't thought of it from that perspective.

I think the Bills are doing it the right way by finding guys to play the position that have already shown some chops instead of using draft picks.

This just reinforces that opinion. 👍

JD McKissic understands what you did there... Seriously though this could be an under the radar type signing as he was drafted by Ron Rivera who runs similar concepts as McDermott. Toss in he had his best season two years ago under Rivera.  His draft profile mentions him playing big nickel which might allow us to rest Taron Johnson a little more and keep him in obvious passing situations and put Forres in on 1st and 2nd downs more.

That's a good point. I was starting to worry about Taron's health last season. He does a lot for the D (including being a small LBer at times) and was rarely coming off the field.

While I am not going to sit here and pretend I feel like our Safety woes are just instantly solved, but it does seem this kid has potential to be a Poyer-esque like signing.  Where a change of scenery and opportunity helped Poyer be the best player he could be, and this regime has a strong track record when it comes to the secondary.  He brings speed, youth, and potential starter on a low risk type deal.

in 2017 I had no idea who Jordan Poyer was and only a fleeting glimpse of Micah Hyde from some GB games.  Poyer was on IR in CLE for a lacerated kidney and look what he turned into.  It would also be a pretty safe guess that McD and Beane spoke with Rivera on Forrest prior to signing him as that was when this kid played well.
