Umm, doesn’t that sound like our existing safeties? I was hoping for more of a coverage guy, I think. 🤔

To be fair for what 7 of those 8 years they knew who their starters were and didn't need one

They didn't even use any late round picks for depth at the position.

And it's worth noting that neither of those starters were drafted either.

The Bills seem to have a philosophy of using draft picks on cost-controlled impact position and Safety doesn't qualify, imo.

Hamlin seems very athletically limited where I’d think Forrest can be coached up.  Hyde and poyer and Hamlin the last year or two were all pretty far behind what Forrest would bring in that regard

Our safeties weren’t very good in run support either lol

Are we sure? Washington might swoop in to re-sign him before it's official.

JD McKissic understands what you did there... Seriously though this could be an under the radar type signing as he was drafted by Ron Rivera who runs similar concepts as McDermott. Toss in he had his best season two years ago under Rivera.  His draft profile mentions him playing big nickel which might allow us to rest Taron Johnson a little more and keep him in obvious passing situations and put Forres in on 1st and 2nd downs more.

You know who actually got really good at it toward the end of the year?

Cole Bishop :flirt:

They were pretty damn good in beating baltimore in the playoff game.

Could be a sneaky good signing.  All about this type of risk/reward.  You do enough of these, your bound to connect on 1 or 2 of them.

what was sneaky about it?

What’s with all these injury plagued players. It’s like Beane is trying to catch lightning in a bottle. Pretty weird since this has been the Bills number 1 problem for the past 5 years. I understand the Bosa signing, that one makes sense. I guess because they have a chance to get great production at a lower cost, but still it could backfire on him tremendously.

This signing is giving me Jordan Poyer vibes...

A guy many haven't even necessarily heard of, but who has great athleticism and has flashed playmaking ability. He signs and everyone says "looks like a depth and special teams guy", and then he comes out of nowhere and wins a starting spot.

I'm not saying he'll be as good as Poyer. I'm just saying...before you say "depth only"...give the guy a chance. If there's one area where I'll happily defer to McDermott and co, its the safety position.

In any case, Bishop, Rapp, Forest, and Hamlin are likely your four safeties. Drafting one now seems unlikely.

def has a Poyer vibe.

I’d still draft one.  Safety class looks deep. On the other hand, would trade up for a DT, CB, DE, LB, or WR we really like and skip a safety.

Forrest has only had one actual injury in his last 8 years of football, that was the cracked shoulder two years ago.

Yeah, Hamlin may be small and slow for the job, but he’s fairly mistakes free other than taking bad angles because he’s not as fast as he seems to thinks he is. I sure hope they can coach Forrest up in coverage. We need help back there.
