It's certainly not his strength.

He is at least willing, if a bit undersized.

If somebody can coach up his wrap and roll technique he would be just fine.

This was the first thing that popped into my head also.

Tremaine Edmunds DB coach?😆. But very good point, just get the guy on the ground and don't hurt yourself we need you to cover receivers first and foremost. We were spoiled watching Antoine Winfield back in the day.

Would love to hear even one. And becoming cap compliant was the reason for the restructure, not "doing nothing with the money" LOL

I consider that doing nothing with the money. Doing something with the money would be making the most out of it. And I can't necessarily give examples because it's not really something that can be proven. Mainly because nothing was done with the money. I promise you, I know what I'm talking about. Someone even put a meme on here a couple of years ago when he did it twice in one off season and we didn't sign anyone

Take that Mahomes and Jones

I guess they have to do it but I do not like void years.  It’s a gimmick that might eventually put the team in cap jail.

Dude, someone put a meme on here making fun of this very topic a couple of years ago. Like I said, when a restructure is made, and the money just sits there, there are no real examples to give. I can't even remember the players but I assure you, it has happened frequently

the Eagles have 290 Million in Void Years and won a SB.  The Bills have around 40 mil in Void Years.  It’s not cap jail

Fans can debate HOW Beane spends cap, but he does spend it.

You can see that by how much cap is rolled over from the previous year.

2025-$1.3M

2024-$1.5M

2023-$2.1M

2022-$2.3M

Beane spends what he creates.

It will eventually put the team in cap jail, but Allen has a new 6 year contract, time to push our financial limitations down the line as long as we can/as long as Allen is our QB

But that's my point. People always assume it's for some player or resigning and it very rarely is. It's either to become cap compliant or make enough room to sign draft picks

Yep - today is the first day of the NFL year so all teams have to be cap compliant.  This could be just to get under the cap.  Optimistically it would be to sign a CB - GIlmore, Asante Samuel, Darius Slay??

Not all the time. He has done restructures numerous times the last few years. And most people always say "it's gotta be making room for this player" and usually it's just to open a few million that just sits there. If my memory serves me correctly, I think Zach Ertz may have been one of them when we had that whole rumor mill going. He cleared a couple contracts and all anyone said was "it's gotta be for Ertz" and it ended up just being for money to sign our draft picks or money that has just kinda not had anything done with it

Do you consider paying your bills "doing nothing with your money"?

That's fans speculating who know nothing of the contracts.  My point is Beane spends the money he creates.  The proof is the rollover.

No, that's not what I am talking about. Me paying bills would be the same as Beane paying players and me buying a Playstation would be the equivalent to Beane making a splash move. You never see Beane do this after a restructure. He might sign low tier players that only take $1 or $2 million off the cap or have the money ready incase we have injuries or whatever. But to me opening up $10 million in cap space on one player from a restructure is quite a bit and in my opinion, something that you do if you have your eye on a bigger fish. But often do we ever get that bigger fish? We usually always bargain bin in free agency. We got Bosa this year but that was before the Oliver restructure so let's see what he does with this situation. He's gonna sign more players. But who he signs is what to pay attention to

Making space for another extension maybe?

You don't need space to extend Cook or Benford, in fact extending either one of them frees up cap space for 2025.

It has to be done to compete with the Eagles of the world.  Cap space keeps increasing so that will absorb many of the future dollars.  You're right that it does end up getting paid one way or the other, but the Bills can make a very strong run of it over the next few years by continuing to kick the can down the road.  There are things they can do to mitigate those eventual dead cap Voided years such as releasing players.  I would imagine that next year Samuels will be gone if not this year and that guys like Epenesa will be gone as well.   Even Milano could be a cap casualty this year or the year after.

Plus you do have Beane signing these 1 year deals that will be off the books.

It's a necessary evil if you want to compete.

They just signed the safety from the Commanders, so you can let it go now. Beane did something with the money.

Not what I meant. We have until September when the season starts of course he is gonna sign players. I'm talking about the amount restructured compared to what or how many players are signed and what is left over. But this is all going over your heads so I will let it go

My guy. Being over the cap happens because of contracts you've already signed, and players whom you've already got value out of. It is paying the bills. You can't spend more until you pay them. It's literally paying for players.
