Love Hamlin the human but wanted someone new on the backend

Hopefully it’s backup money and he never sees the field

Meh. I don’t hate this as we need bodies in the secondary but we should 100% be looking for an upgrade in the draft.

I wouldn't be mad, but after investing a 2nd in Bishop last year I think they're done, unless a guy they really like falls.

Looking like CB, DE, DT in draft

As long as he's just for depth and not going to be a starter again. He was a liability most of the time in coverage.

I don't trust McDermott not to start him.

I don't believe they envision him as a starter.   I think they will look at the draft and hope to get someone who could eventually be in consideration to compete as a starter or if a really good safety is available early on to be a starter.   For now, I think they believe Rapp and Bishop are the two envisioned starting safeties that are on the roster.

I desperately wanted Holland. The reality is McBeane are not going to pay a lot for safeties in our scheme. They just want sound tacklers and guys who can keep the lid on.

I think the philosophy is spending more on the front 7, and then getting by in the secondary.

Damar is a great guy to have on your team if he is a brake glass in case of emergency starter. This reiterates the need for Cole Bishop to have a strong off-season and step up next season.

Ok so he is not good. He's not the worst player ever. If this is a vet minimum deal fine.

My problem with this is that McDermott tends to turn to old reliable mediocre players he trusts when things don't go well. Having Hamlin around is going to make him pull Bishop when he makes a mistake and that will be counterproductive to his development.

Rapp also has an injury history so you are one hit away from Damar Hamlin starting safety again.

I was hoping they brought in real safety completion, and I suppose they still could. I just don't like coach having old reliable around because it becomes a crutch.

Not a fan of this, we need to move on.

If the pass rush is upgraded and produces, that helps the dbacks do their job. Hopefully that’s what happened with the dline additions.

Still would like to see quality safety depth.

My take is “I guess so.” I don’t like him as a starter, but depth is fine.

Why the hate ? He improved last year. Had a few really big plays. He is top tier depth
