McGovern I expect to be extended, the others I don't. And I'm thinking we'll cut Samuel next offseason so his dead cap hit of $3.45M will get added on. Altogether it is definitely going to be over $30M we will be paying players not on the roster. Beane needs to nail this upcoming draft.

I would bet that Beane is hoping for Bosa to make a comeback, and he gets extended.

Nobody likes dead cap money but if you want to play the game you have to pay.

This year so far, the Bills have $29M in dead cap.  It's right in the middle of the pack.

I look at dead cap in 2 parts.  One, it's the interest price of getting players today and paying tomorrow.

The other is the cost of getting rid of players who have decreased in value.  Typically, that is caused by injuries or old age.

Tre White, Von Miller, Hyde and now Milano come to mind.

Our dead cap for 2026 is really piling up. According to Spotrac it's already at $32.2M and that's before accounting for any earned incentives that hit the cap next year. I don't mind Beane kicking the can as far down the road as possible during Allen's career but I wish he was doing it with more impactful players.

How do incentives work for a cap?  I dont quite understand how a players pay can change under the cap.  Do the incentives count towards the cap until they arent?

Incentives are classified as "likely to be earned" if the player met those incentives in the previous season, or "not likely to be earned" if they didn't. Likely to be earned incentives count on the current year's cap, but would be credited to next year's cap if the incentives are not met. Not likely to be earned incentives instead count against next year's cap if they are achieved.

For example Von Miller's sack incentives last year were all classified as "not likely to be earned" because he had 0 sacks in 2023. He ended up getting 6 sacks last year so we owe him $4M which counts against the cap this year.

who knows, maybe this guy will be extra fired up and wreck games after being humiliated

Also maybe 6 games off for a chronically injured veteran player might actually be a positive.
