My growing concern is that they are going to draft a 1T in the 1st round because they convince themselves it's their one missing piece, and historically Beane has pigeonholed himself in the 1st round.

Ā

Currently there is no one across from benford so I'd say if we're pigeon-holed anywhere its probably corner.Ā Ā

Looks like a great rotation for Ed and situation pass rusher.Ā  Ā Solid signing.Ā

Ā

As of now, looks like S, DT, and DB2 will be the focus on the draft, pending more FA signings.Ā Ā

What sucks is, this is not a great draft for DB's or S.Ā Ā

This may be wishful thinking, but I really believe they'll be signing a veteran CB.

It may only be a baseline, guy-you-want-to-upgrade-from type like Dane Jackson, or it may be a legit starter like an Asante Samuel. But I DO think they'll sign a guy. I also believe they like Ja'Marcus Ingram, Daequan Hardy, and Te'Cory Couch.

Ā

I also think they envision Bishop and Rapp as the starters this coming season (though Bishop needs to earn it, blah blah blah), and Hamlin just re-signed.

DT, WR, EDGE, CB

That's where my eyes will be come draft day.

Good player. Now cut Daquan please.

Yes.Ā  Gunner, what is your 2 favorite 1-Tech that fits the Bills?

What round would they be?

They'll sign a vet baseline like Jonathan Jones, as they should. I am hoping for a 1st round CB, every time I look at a mock draft it feels like that's where the best value is going to be. All of the legit 1st round caliber pass rushers will probably be off the board. I would even rather draft a safety than a 1T.

Probably my least liked signing, it is not a bad signing. Will be 31 and not a super high end player. Nice rotational piece but it seems like a high amount to pay for an older role player. Still the Bills needed a good backup for Ed at the 3-Tech. Let's hope in the draft or in free agency they round out the DT room with a big run stuffer.Ā

I'm not trying to project, I was moreso saying as of now.Ā  Yes, we may still bring back Douglas, or maybe even Dane Jackson.Ā  I'm sure we will get a few more 1 year deal guys.

Ā

I personally don't think WR or Edge is going to get a pick in the top 4 rounds unless someone falls.Ā  I know that Bosa is injured a lot, but we still don't typically activate more than 4 DE's per game.Ā  As of now, that's Groot, AJ, Bosa, and the Hoecht.Ā  Again, could get another one in for down the road after Bosa leaves, but I don't see that being a high pick.Ā

Ā

Same for WR.Ā  I think they will go after a depth guy, but with Samuel, Coleman, Shakir, and Palmer, those are going to be our main production starters.Ā  If someone falls, then okay.

Ā

No matter what, I don't see us signing our long term answer at DB, so that is a priority.Ā  If they believe Bishop is the guy at S, then okay.Ā Ā

Ā

Honestly, as I type this up, I really think we are going to either package picks to trade up for more premiere players, or trade into next years draft.Ā Ā

There are a few. CJ West if he makes it to our 4th is someone I'd consider. Day 3 there are a couple of guys I like too. Simmons from Tennessee I think might not be a starter out of the box but had potential to be a good 1tech down the line.

Starks would be the guy we likely go with if there. Emmanwori is a box only safety and we already have two of thoseĀ

So, you think Bills shouldn't use a 2nd round pick?Ā  Best to move up with the 4th round pick possibly?

I can't imagine this regime passing up on Starks if he's still there at #30. He fits everything they look for from a player and character perspective. It wouldn't be my preference but it's not my worst case scenario either. Would be a very safe pick and maybe Beane could use a single or double on his recent 1st round resume.

My number one concern is secondary.

Ā

Beane/McD have said they want to get bigger/faster across the board on defense.Ā  Seeing that play out at DL signings.

Ā

I want to be able to shut down the run and a solid #2 CB.Ā  I'm leaning now toward drafting a CB in Rd1 and a 1 tech in Rd2, where plenty of DT options will be there still.

Ā

I see no reason to sign a vet, unless they don't plan on drafting someone high.Ā  The CB numbers game, would Beane cut Elam/waste the $4m+ cap?

Is it possible that they view him as more than just a depth guy?

For $8.3 million? Quite expensive depth IMO.Ā

I would just like to say that we have some fun names to say. They roll off the tongue well.

Ogunjobi.

Hoecht (Hoyt).

Epenesa.

Groot.

I assume that's Beane's primary criteria in signing these guys.

Ā

A 1T in the 2nd round I'd have no issue with. If I was laying out my ideal day 1 and 2 draft scenario it would be CB 1st round, then the best WR available and the best DL available with our 2nd round picks. Then trade back into the 3rd round and take the best safety or DL available. Obviously I don't expect Beane to actually have such a hyperspecific plan, nor would I want him to, but if the value fell that way it would be perfect for our needs and based on the draft class I think it's somewhat realistic.
