HappyDays Posted Wednesday at 02:11 PM Posted Wednesday at 02:11 PM I'm much less enthused by this signing. He'll be 31 in June and coming off a down year. Feels very similar to the Daquan Jones signing last year which I also was not a fan of. Beane really can't help himself with this type of player. The one saving grace is that it is again a 1 year deal so I guess it doesn't hurt. FWIW PFF graded him as the 150th best DT last year with a 49.4. As others have said he's a more natural fit in a 4-3 so maybe he can return to form. Quote
WhitewalkerInPhilly Posted Wednesday at 02:12 PM Posted Wednesday at 02:12 PM I hope someone can help me clear it up: is he going to be the 1 Tech? (Or at least in rotation with DQJ) He played 5-tech for the Steelers and from what a know that is usually a 2 gap assignment. Quote

Levon was one of the great freakshows in NFL history, imo. Quote

Carter should be playing where Ed O plays, in fact same with Ogunjobi tbh. I'm not hating this signing yet the money he got feels like an over spend on a depth guy. 1 Quote

He actually played a little lighter earlier in his career, but ballooned up to that 280, yet still could move. Really unique player. Quote

I'm guessing he was scheduled to make less money than that when he was released for cap reasons. Yeah he was due $7M this year. His deal with the Bills could be worth closer to $10M if he hits incentives. If that was his market the Steelers could have dealt him for a late pick or a pick swap at least. 1 Quote

Watching him run stride for stride 30 yrds downfield at 280 with the likes of Shannon Sharpe while his head was turned and tracking the ball was surreal. 1 Quote

Grant seems more like a 3-technique as well. No one ran on us for six glorious seasons from 1995-2000. I want to see those days again. 1 Quote
gonzo1105 Posted Wednesday at 02:23 PM Posted Wednesday at 02:23 PM People really need to catch up with the times in salaries. A rotational piece on a DL that plays a lot will get around this salary. I don’t think Bosa or Ogunjobi changes much at all. They will still draft a DE and a DT most likely fairly high in the draft. If the draft plays out the way they want it I think this might be the end of the road for Epenesa and/or Jones 2 Quote
H2o Posted Wednesday at 02:24 PM Posted Wednesday at 02:24 PM Meh, not really feeling this one. That $8M would have been better served spent on the Secondary or a different player altogether. This guy is not impressive by any means. Quote
BuffaloBill Posted Wednesday at 02:24 PM Posted Wednesday at 02:24 PM Beane is really setting up the roster well to go into the draft without glaring needs. The only huge gaps are: CB#2 WR who can be downfield speed threat QB#1 ….. (Ten years down the road ) It’s always easy to be excited this time of year but … I am …. 1 Quote
harmonkillebrew Posted Wednesday at 02:24 PM Posted Wednesday at 02:24 PM Rotational piece. only a 1 yr deal. Replaces Austin Johnson essentially. Could see the field on passing downs with Oliver. That's my take. Doesn't seem they're very confident in Carter. They should still go for a Daquan upgrade in the draft. Need a new starting 1-tech Quote

That could have easily described Oliver. Quote

Id draft a QB late if one falls there or look through the roster cuts/PS at cut downs to build a career backup here. 1 Quote

He is always going to be a rotational rusher and get us around 5 sacks. Need guys like that. Quote
