billsfan89 Posted March 14 Posted March 14 Bills only “pressing” needs are corner and 1-Tech DT, I would also put WR on the fringe of that. The draft is loaded at mammoth DT’s the Bills should be able to find that. But CB is where they need a starting caliber player there. Add that and I think we are good. 1 1 Quote

mjt328 Posted March 14 Posted March 14 4 hours ago, Alphadawg7 said: Ive been saying this for years and still 100% believe it...Beane is one of the best GM's in football. I think someone would be hard pressed to find 5 GM's who have a strong case to be better than him, so for me is a top 5 GM. A Super Bowl is all that is missing from him to cement his case for top 3. His ability to retain his own, and on good deals, find value all over the draft and outside the overpay rush of FA, and in getting more than expected back in trades is second to none IMHO. But, to be fair and unbiased, the one area he has not had enough success yet is landing elite talent. He has found good to even very good players in the draft and other avenues, but his only real hits on elite talent are Allen and Diggs via trade before Diggs was known as an elite player. In Beane's defense, its not always easy to do picking where we pick every year, and again, he has still found guys who have been good to very good starters for us, so not like he is out there whiffing most the time. Hopefully we can find a difference maker in the draft this year, and with fewer holes than we have had before and still having 10 picks, this is the year to be aggressive and move up more than move down to go get guys with a higher potential to be those difference makers. I felt strongly last year that BTJ was that player for us that we should go get if he got within a reasonable trade range (and he did)....now maybe Beane tried, but listenting to him it seemed trading back was the direction he was looking to do in order to get back the 3rd we used on Rasul. And I get the reasoning, I really do, I mean we had a ton of turnover and lost a lot of veteran leaders last year clearing out age and cap which felt like a mini reset year. So getting back more picks makes sense and can't really fault him just because a rookie taken before we picked hit big. This year is very different though...less holes...doorstep of the SB (really a ref screw job from the SB)...team ready to win right now with SB expectations. We don't need 10 picks or more picks...we need to get some impact players. I know Beane isn't afraid to trade up, and this year my BTJ of the draft is DT Kenneth Grant. We need a guy just like this and I am not at all convinced he last to our pick. Go get him Beane...and then look to be aggressive on the next 2 picks to get a starting CB and hopefully and another WR. Overall picture, I agree that Brandon Beane is amongst the top GMs in the NFL. I do agree however that he has struggled badly to land high-impact difference makers, both in the Draft and in Free Agency. This roster continues to be Josh Allen, carrying a ton of above average/average players. My feeling is that both Beane (and Sean McDermott on the coaching side) have settled into a place of complacency. They know what is needed to be generally successful in the NFL. What kind of players they need in the locker room and on the field. And without much competition in the AFC East, they have managed to roll through the regular season strong. Like others, I question if this style has just reached its ceiling. There is only so far Allen can carry a "decent" roster by himself. We need game wreckers elsewhere. Not guys who just fit into the scheme well. Quote
Wizard Posted March 14 Posted March 14 For all of the fawning over Beane, let's stop. He just overpaid for two defensive linemen who also are going to be suspended for 6 weeks. Not one below average defender but two. Guy is average. 1 2 Quote
Freddie's Dead Posted March 15 Posted March 15 Beane was asleep at the switch on Hoecht and Ogunjobi. He's not the next coming of Scott Pioli. Quote

His track record on defensive free agent signings has been average at best. Rapp, Floyd & Douglas were OK signings but nothing special and Miller was a disaster. Sure the injury was at fault for Miller but given his age it always was a very real possibility. Quote

PayDaBill$ Posted March 15 Posted March 15 Lmao love all the Beane apologists. I’ve been ok with him so far, he’s been average. However, two DL signings who are ineligible during a brutal start to the schedule…. Smh! Quote

You are selecting players who struggle to complete a season and fail to make the Pro Bowl as examples of why Beane is a great general manager. While it's great to support the team, Beane has been gradually performing worse in all aspects of his job. When you defend him, it's natural for others to challenge your viewpoint. buffblue Posted March 15 Posted March 15 I think Beane is clearly an above average GM. But he also does not deserve the "wizard" and "BBB" monikers that some people bestow on him. He is in the 8-12 range imo 1 Quote

Beane wants his 1-tech to be a 1-gap guy that contributes to the pass rush. He doesn't seem like he'd be happy with a guy who primarily kept Ed free and our small LB's clean with some contribution to collapsing the pocket with straight bull rush. I hope I don't hear Beane on draft day "we took (name) thinking he could help in the pass rush. He'll have to work on his strength because he's a little undersized for a 1-tech and has trouble tying up more than one guy, but we see him in that 1-tech spot." Quote
stevestojan Posted March 15 Posted March 15 Apparently we need two DTs. But going to be tough to find guys who only want to play the first 6 weeks. JFC, what a mess, Beane. 1 Quote

Multiple very good "pocket collapsing" DT's who are also massive and hard to move in the ground game should be there at pick 30. Kenneth Grant and Tyleik Williams are my early draft crushes for the Bills at or around pick 30, I also like Derrick Harmon. I think one of those 3 should be there at pick 30. 1 Quote
