Can we please edit the title to "Joey Mimosa" cause this dude has a better chance of attending Sunday brunches then games. That is all.

Haha I’m torn cuz I disagree with the meaning of this post but it’s hilarious

We certainly wouldn't want to sign someone who gets injured .............. meanwhile Bosa played in more games than Bernard did last yearl.  He's instantly the best pass rusher on the team and if it doesn't work out he's off the books next year.

Does it help that I don't care for Bernard either?

Just quoting what I saw in the news, B word at Schefter about it.

My point was, with that rumor out there, it looks like Beane overpaid. "At face value" I mean it's right in the post.

If Bosa plays like Bosa could in the past, then it's a bargain and Beane looks like a genius. If not he's gonna get railed for paying him ~$13 mil.

Railed by who? Fans and Talking heads? Come on man, Beane and every other GM out there don’t give a 💩 about those opinions, we both know that, seems like you may need some angry whiskey shots, 😁👍

I get it.  Hell Benford has injury concerns at times also and he's the next guy we'll be resigning.

I don't think anyone is concerned about the financials if it doesn't work, it's about the opportunity cost.

Who are you going to get with a better ceiling for $12.6 m. Than Bosa?

So rumors of a SF and MIA's offer means they had the correct value of Bosa?  Anything over that unconfirmed rumor is 100% an overpay?

But if he plays well, it's not an overpay? lol

I know you are not new here. You don't think that's exactly how the fan response is going to play out?

I personally would've pursued Floyd. He was very good for the Bills, should not have let him go to begin with. Once the big names came off the board this is all you are left with. A big name with a big question mark about his availability. And unconfirmed rumor or not, wouldn't the fact that he backed out at the last minute and signed with the Bills signal that the rumor is more factual? Certainly no sunshine and palms trees here, just a lot more green.

5 years is a very long time in the NFL.

Merriman fell off a cliff w production. Word was PED suspension killed him .

Bosa has been relatively consistent w his production, factoring injury.

In his last 18 starts , he had 14 sacks. Yes, this took 3 seasons but when he's on field he provides a pass rush.

Mmmm. No.

In his last 18 starts he had 9 sacks. Which isn't bad at all. But not 14.

The other 5 sacks came in games he did not start. So if you want to talk about the 14 sacks, they came in 28 games.

Both of those come out at 1 sack every 2 games, which would be 8.5 sacks if he plays all 17 games. How would we feel, if he also pressures at a commensurate rate?

I wouldn't mind, but I wouldn't be thrilled.

If we managed 4 playoff games, that would come to 2 sacks, which would not thrill me.

Of course, there's more to it than sacks, lots more.

Full disclosure I don't care for most of the defense or the way it's structured so I'm not likely to be excited about much that they do on defense.  The DTs and LBs will always be too small, the DBs will be too slow, nobody tackles very well.

CBS only giving Bills a C on the Bosa Signing, meanwhile gave Falcons an A+ for signing former Bill Leonard Floyd.

Leonard Floyd has 28 sacks the last 3 years. Bosa had 14.

Oh, crap.  My bad. He’s practically a rookie!!!

Interesting way to admit how incredibly wrong you were. Once again. Eh, what's 6 years difference when you're bitter, huh?

In those 3 years for 14 sacks he played 941 snaps. In his double digit sacks years he had about 840 snaps in those seasons. Basically  if he's on the field, he is still consistent.

I've had the chance to sleep on it and I'm liking the move more. Even if there's risk I would argue there's less of it here than with Von Miller's original deal. Von got $20M average on his deal even if he never got paid that much and he was older when Beane gave it.

Now? At this point the Von we got last year was as good as we are likely to get. He was better than some people here think but no one mistakes that from what he saw in 2022. Bosa, even with the injury caveat is 29. You see DEs playing well into their 30s. Bosa has easily the highest ceiling of anyone who hit the open market.

From a contract point of view the two worst outcomes I can think of are being so injured he doesn't see the field (in which case it's a waste but we are mostly already through it) or he plays himself into a mega deal (which is a great problem to have)

Yeah I think the biggest argument FOR the move is that it's a one-year deal which is significantly below market for a very good edge rusher.

Now obviously he has to stay healthy and prove that he still IS a very good edge rusher, but...

A one year deal for the amount of money he's making is what I'd classify as a low risk, high reward deal.

He continues to be injured and doesn't contribute much? Oh well, you still have the baseline of Rousseau, Epenesa, Hoecht, and Soloman, and you move on next year with no long term cap implcaitons.

But if he actually stays healthy and proves that he's still JOEY BOSA?! Then you just got in insane deal on a one year mercenary, and a head start on potentially re-signing him if that's a thing both sides want.

Low risk. High reward. Hard to hate on it.
