Victory Formation Posted March 14 Posted March 14 I love the Dane Jackson signing and I’m hopeful that we bring Rasul Douglas back on a cheap one year deal. Add a slot CB in the Draft. 2 Quote
BearNorth Posted March 14 Posted March 14 USA Today - For the win had a piece a couple of hours ago that said Gilmore is on the radar as a CB2 replacement. I thought there was some front office angst when he ditched the Bills for the Pats in FA? 1 1 Quote

I thought there was some front office angst when he ditched the Bills for the Pats in FA? You mean anger? Yeah, they tried but couldn't get a long-term deal done and there was anger on both sides. Gilmore said he did not want the tag, and the Bills anticipated a holdout and a distraction. But that was 2017, right after McD was hired and Whaley was still GM. He left for New England for the 2017 season. They were confident McD could rebuild the secondary quickly. Now, with Beane, it might be ok, and he may not have a good selection anyway to choose from. We'll see after the draft. Edited March 18 by chongli Quote

Dane has played well in McD's system the frequent times he was put in as a backup. 1 1 Quote

MrEpsYtown Posted March 18 Posted March 18 Porter seems like he was made in a lab to play for McDermott. Long arms, zone acumen. The problem is he's like 8 months younger than Benford. Maybe it makes sense to have an older prospect for really cheap to play opposite Benford. 1 Quote

Dane was better in Buffalo than he was in Carolina. Douglas was quite bad last year. It wouldn’t surprise me if 2025 Dane is an upgrade over 2024 Douglas, despite 2023 Douglas being far better than 2023 Dane. 1 1 Quote

Not worried about age at all.😁 1 1 Quote

Add a slot CB in the Draft. Agree. However I’d rather try and address a boundary corner given the deal handed to Dane and what you’re suggesting with Douglas. Need a guy that can fill the outside role in the event Benford is priced out of Buffalo. We’d have no one under contract unless Ingram becomes sensational. 1 Quote

While I'm a big advocate of a defensive lineman at 30 I'm afraid all the corners that are second round worthy will be gone by our pair of second round picks. I stand by my urge to trade up with one of the second rounders. Quote

There are a few later rnd DT's that could be taken to fill the role we need imo (ie. Caldwell, Jackson). Unless Grant is available of course. Then you run to the podium!! 😉😁 Quote
Buffalo03 Posted March 19 Posted March 19 Me. I can be CB2. I will be 39 at the end of the month. I'm 5'10 240 pounds and probably run about an 8 second 40 time. What do you all think? Quote
GASabresIUFan Posted March 19 Posted March 19 (edited) I don’t understand Beane offseason game plan in light of the suspensions. His biggest priority of the offseason should have been finding a starting CB. With Douglas gone and little depth at the position besides a failed 1st rd pick (since traded) and an UDFA (Ingram), the position clearly needed an overhaul after getting demolished in the playoffs. Instead Beane prioritized an injury prone DE, two suspended DL and another middling WR. The only help at CB so far was the return of a former Bill (Jackson) who was awful in Carolina last season. So we are back to hoping a rookie draftee can somehow start with zero depth behind him if it doesn’t work. If (when?) it fails, Beane will find himself again trying to acquire an in season band-aid to fix a hole in his lineup that should have been addressed properly in the offseason for the 3rd season (Douglas and Cooper) in a row. As things currently stand the Bills defense will enter the season arguably in worse shape than it finished last season. I’m not a Beane hater, but his plan and execution this offseason so far have been off the mark. There is still a chance to find a reasonable fix to this mess. It obviously now a priority to draft 2 CBs in April. Regardless of who he drafts, he is going to have to take a chance on a veteran former starter like Gilmore as insurance and mentor.
