Mack Hollins signs with Patriots

Fun personality, but not a particularly good WR. Good luck to him, I seriously doubt he has another season as productive as the one he just had. 

 

He was an ST Ace that added some punch as a WR4/5. He had 5 TD's and just under 400 yards on limited targets. I wouldn't classify him as a JAG but he was a high end role player. But the Bills simply couldn't justify paying a contract worth up to 5+ million for a high end role player. If this was 2019 and Josh was on a rookie deal yeah over pay for the margins of the roster. But the Bills simply can't overpay a role player even if he's a really fun personality.

That's a bummer. I liked Mack. Dude caught nothing but touchdowns or first downs this year. Seriously, of his 31 receptions like 25 were first downs and five others were TDs.

With Hollins it's possible that the Bills wanted him back but he wanted to move on ... Maybe he was in the mood for some oysters and lobster rolls.

Didn’t realize he was a Josh McDaniels guy with the Raiders. Makes sense there is a connection there as he wants to establish culture with his offense.

But he took more offensive snaps than any other WR/TE/RB.  With that many opportunities he had some plays.

Bills need other guys to take over those snaps.  I don't think the Bills were considering bringing him back.

I wish him luck and enjoyed him on the team but it's time for something different this year IMO.

I’m happy he got the most he could on what could be his last deal.  I’m gonna miss the vibe he brought and tenacity.

 

But truth is, with Keon here his skill set became redundant since Keon is a good blocker himself.  This is a vote of confidence in Keon IMHO to where they want to see Keon stay in the field and have someone like Palmer, Samuel, a rookie be opposite and pressure downfield more.

He definitely showed up against KC in the playoffs.  Great touchdown catch.  Made a lot more plays during the season than I expected.  I think I would not have minded bringing him back at that rate. You know what you are getting with him, at least.

His best year, by far, was with McDaniels in LV. 690 yards with 4 TDs. This year, he had 378 yards. It did feel like a lot more.

Hollins snap counts were influenced by the fact that he was the only WR that played in all 17 games. Shakir missed 2 games, Keon missed 4 games, Samuel was dinged up and missed 3 games. Of course Cooper was traded mid-season and got banged up. Also Hollins was the teams best run blocking WR, so I would imagine that given how run heavy the Bills were he was likely on the field often in running situations. He didn't get many targets so his added pop was noticeable. 

 

If Hollins was younger I would have strongly liked the Bills to have made a competitive offer but at age 32 and given where the Bills are at they just weren't in position to pay a premium on what is a high end role player.

Good points on the injuries of the WRs.  Even so, it seems to me you want your skill players to have a better numbers than what his were.

He was good at blocking (also good to hear that Palmer is a decent down field blocker).  I just see Coleman, Samuel, Palmer and I suspect

a speedy rookie getting more of the snaps.

 

I have nothing bad to say about Hollins, just think he is not needed anymore.
