Mack Hollins signs with Patriots

I don't know if there has been a more overrated player on the Bills.  Reading the comments here, you would think he was a 1000 yard receiver.  He was a quirky, edgy guy, but nothing more than an average backup WR.

Absolutely hate this.  He was a WR that was smart and could make the few plays asked of him and more than anything would block with maximum effort every single play.

 

He was the definition of an everyone eats guy.  Don’t know how we couldn’t come to terms with him when we just threw 36 million at another WR today

It’s a fun adventure to read this and read the post from when he signed last year. 
 

But like I said, his opportunities need to be going to Coleman and Palmer and Shakir and Samuel. We will be okay.

not a game changer but he did everything that was asked of him pretty well.  hes 31 though so mbe age was a deal breaker.  kinda bummed hes gone.

 who was a leader, the most physical player in the WR room and who repeatedly made a bunch of clutch plays when the Bills offense was struggling and needed bailed out.

If Coleman doesn't step up in his sophomore season, the Bills are going to miss Mack Hollins' contributions.

wanted to retain him as well but Josh needed $55M/year    

$51-54M just wasn’t going to cut it.

Josh's contract had nothing to do with this decision.

 

They either wanted an upgrade from Hollins and/or felt that their number was below 4.2m up to 5 with incentives.

 

And I don't blame them there.

He wasn’t bad for us. But I think we will be perfectly fine without him. His production and what he did can be replaced pretty easily.

if there number was below 4.2M or whatever it was this is due to the cap and how much of it is eaten up by various contracts. The largest of which is Josh Allen’s. This will be the case for every other potential free agent offer this offseason.

We signed a Wide Receiver today to a 3 year deal for 36m with 18m guaranteed, with Josh's contract. And we have more than enough money to do that deal The Pats signed him to right now.

 

The bottom line is they decided that they didn't want to pay more than what the Patriots signed him to for his role on the team.

Wow, that's some good football theater. I have to say I'm a little shocked that Beane didn't come through with an offer, but I've seen stranger things happen.

 

Too bad, I loved that guy. And now, sadly, he is the enemy.

I am beyond furious we let Hollins go! Made so many clutch plays , had zany confidence and swagger and has won a SB. All that for a bargain price. Absolute stupidity by the Bills!

Beane does like his developmental guys like Ingram and Lewis. If Shavers can take on Hollins’ role, that’s about a 3 mill cap savings.
