DJB Posted 20 hours ago Posted 20 hours ago I would have taken this money and offered it to J Holland who would instantly upgrade our safety position and play 100% of the snaps Quote
Magox Posted 20 hours ago Posted 20 hours ago Just now, BarleyNY said: Why? Because the formation that the Bills like to play a lot the 4 by 1 where they have 4 receivers bunched on one side and the 1 isolated on the other side is not a role that Coleman is suited for. That is suited for someone who can win 1 v 1 and that can separate. Palmer will play that role. Coleman will play the role that Mack Hollins played a lot this year which was more of a power slot who can line up on the boundary. Quote

He is a legit outside WR as you said, and he is a downfield threat who gets open. Its going to help guys like Shakir, Keon, our TE's, etc by bringing that dimension to the offense. I don't expect Palmer to become a legit star here, but that is one of the beauties of this offense, we don't need him to be. We needed a legit guy on the outside that was a threat downfield, and we got someone who does that. What I hope is that this means we will also draft someone as well still and there are some guys I really like in rounds 2-4 that I think would be exciting prospects to include in our mix. I wouldn’t count on it. I expect DT-DE-CB-S Quote

I think the best case scenario is somewhere around 2019 John Brown. He was the Bills #1 by default but we all knew (well most of us did) he wasn't a true #1 receiver. And from memory Brown went just over 1,000. And that would open things up in the middle of the field for Shakir and the tight ends. That is best case scenario. Worst case if he stays healthy he is that 500-700 yard guy he has been in LA. And he makes the odd big play but defenses still focus on stopping the Bills inside to out and make them try and win with Palmer which doesn't hold up over a season. Thanks. great synopsis. Agree with all of it. I don’t think the ceiling of our offense needed to go much higher (related to one of your other posts). It was the best in team history and one of the most efficient in history. IMO, we needed to replace Cooper with a similar talent and then improve the defense. I think Palmer is a similar talent to cooper (at this stage of his career) 3 Quote
Victory Formation Posted 20 hours ago Posted 20 hours ago $12M/year does seem like a lot of money but keep in mind that the top guys are getting $35M/year plus. It is reasonable to assume that his production will improve with Josh but only time will tell.. Quote
Logic Posted 20 hours ago Posted 20 hours ago I can recognize and appreciate the "separation and man beating ability" argument, but... Ultimately, we were all saying "if this offense needs one thing, it's another difference maker", and Palmer simply doesn't feel like that. Now...to be fair...there really weren't/aren't many difference makers available in free agency, short of maybe a Davante Adams. But still... League average receivers who can pitch in 400-500 yards and be effective role players are pretty much all we HAD last year, and so far appear to be all we'll have THIS year. Granted, they haven't yet re-signed Cooper or Hollins, so I suppose from a sheer numbers standpoint, they had to do SOMETHING. But...a year after everyone got excited for career long average receiver Curtis Samuel (and even HE had more career production than Josh Palmer), it's hard for me to get too excited for career long average receiver Josh Palmer. I'm sure he'll play a role. I'm sure he'll have some nice moments. I'm not sure I see how it IMPROVES our offense in a tangible way, though. Quote

Back2Buff Posted 20 hours ago Posted 20 hours ago I don't know why people are talking about money. I would venture to guess his cap hit is around 4-6 million this year and probably like 10 next year where we can get out with very little dead cap after two years if it doesn't work. Quote

biggerdaddynj Posted 20 hours ago Posted 20 hours ago Seems like a WR who has a chance to balance out our “everyone eats” offense by adding the separation piece we desperately need. Think Slayton will get significantly overpaid based on the slim pickings on the FA market (I don’t count Higgins). Swing for upside (high ceiling) at WR with a 4th/5th rounder this year. Wish we’d been able to get something more but circumstances didn’t pan out in our favor. It will be a real tragedy (football not life!) if Diggs winds up being the only the true WR1 Josh will have during his career. Quote
MikePJ76 Posted 20 hours ago Posted 20 hours ago The people who loved giving up a 3rd (huge mistake) for cooper all hate this signing. Very interesting. 2 1 Quote

I’m not certain that we need another difference maker on offense (assuming Cook and Shakir perform at the same level), especially if Coleman or Kincaid take a step forward. We certainly need a difference maker or two on the team overall though. Whether that’s the desired receiver, DB that makes timely plays, or a DLman that gets timely stuffs or sacks… We need another guy or two to make some magic happen, particularly on the defensive side of the ball. 3 Quote

Hollins is most likely going to get a solid chunk of change as well but not as much because of the age difference 1 Quote

I think they are going to draft a guy or sign another vet obviously in the coming weeks but i would think Palmer would get the snaps Cooper got last year. Quote

BuffaloBillsGospel2014 Posted 20 hours ago Posted 20 hours ago His 1 TD should really help us get past those Chiefs. This signing is as much of a head scratcher as the Curtis Samuel signing but I'll of course hope to be wrong. Also another slow WR, he get's open yet only had 584 yards and 1 TD. These are the guys were surrounding the best QB in the league with? 1 Quote

People need to deal with that. They will be looking for depth and will likely add during the draft, for depth. Quote

To be fair, I think most people were on board with Cooper but he didn’t live up to expectations. As such, most are now very skeptical of Beane’s FA WR signings. His track record for this position is absolutely terrible. Here’s hoping that he get lucky with this dart 🍻 Quote
