DB Horn signed to extension (For those thinking about a Benford Deal)

Crikey. That is a ton. Missed most of his rookie year and his 3rd year and while I haven't watched a lot of Carolina this past year when I did I thought he was struggling some. That is a ridiculous deal.

I love Benford. I actually loved him from the moment we picked him. But I don’t think he is in this same tier of player as Horn.
 

Benford is an excellent zone defender and very competent in man. I would say Horn is your classic shut down man cover guy.

Don’t worry when the Benford deal gets done for like 4 years 90 million we’ll have a bunch of people complaining how we’re giving tons of money to good players

Dude was the brightest spot on a defense. His hype is there. Carolina hypes up zone coverage cbs than anyone. From Josh Norman to him.

I said before the Josh announcement that it will not be cheap to maintain the status quo.

I think people need to use percentage of cap as they look at these numbers. It's completely reasonable that deals signed for comparable ascending players just 3 years ago are now around 33% higher (cap went from 208M to 279M).

Would have liked to have seen the Benford deal come in before this, on the plus side Jaycee was more of a blue chip prospect coming in than Benford and he's actually made a pro bowl (not that it matters that much but it is something to point to).   I'm still hoping that Benford comes in at around $21M, but this signing makes it a little more difficult.   What is for sure is that the Bills cannot let him walk after this season, they need to find a way to get the deal done.

Yeah I think that people really need to start readjusting their perspectives and expectations on these moves. It's going to continue to cost more and more to maintain good players, but at the same time the cap will likely continue to rise, so it all balances out. What really matters is the % of cap and positional value. Certain positions are just going to take up a larger % of the team's overall cap, but as long as Beane isn't out there to making mega deals way over positional value, then there's not all that much to worry about.

Yep. The extra money added to the cap flows to the scarce resources as teams look to buy wins.

I don't think he is close to as good as Josh Norman was.

These bad teams (Carolina, Cleveland) setting the market at positions is increasingly frustrating. 
 

At least Myles Garrett is the best in the world, but guys like Watson and Horn? Woof.
