First: “Legal tampering”. That’s a stupid name.  Call it “unofficial negotiating period” or something more accurate.

Second: You just know that there has already been a ton of “not so legal tampering” but everyone looks the other way.

Third: It starts at Noon which should be a gigantic and unfair advantage for teams in the East.  If not for the illegal tampering we know is going on, the West coast teams would be having a hissy fit. The Cardinals especially since Arizona doesn’t do daylight savings.  I doubt Beane would use this to his advantage if a West coast team beats him to a guy before it is noon there, but it would be interesting.  I could see Kraft and Vrabel doing this and turning in the Seahawks or someone.

The NFL probably likes this stuff because it creates headlines and clicks, but it feels funky dink.

Yeah. A lot of deals have already been worked out for days or longer. A lot of wink and nod deals. Today is just the day we get to hear about them. It's why you see so many players make it to yesterday or earlier today before re-signing with their team. They already know exactly what their offers are looking like.

I may be dumb but it seems to me that if I was managing a franchise worth $5 billion I could get up at 3 in the morning once a year to cover this off.  In fact I AM dumb - I can't count the number of times I was up at weird hours or took all night flights in coach just for my crappy little career.

Have we tampered with anyone yet ?

Never mind I'm a half hour early

I tampered with a girl named Penny when I was in 11th grade.  She'd never been kissed but there was an awful lot of pent up energy there if you know what I mean.  Fortunately I never had to find out if her father owned a shotgun.

I swear I typed rinky dink but funky dink seems like a phrase that should have been used by now.

Right.  It starts at Noon.  East Noon is before West Noon therefore advantage East.

This has absolutely got to be the worst take on this that I have ever seen!!!!!! There is no advantage to any team regardless of what coast they are on. If free agency starts at 12 noon EST that just means that it starts at whatever time corresponds to 12:00 p.m. EST throughout the various time zones. When free agency starts in one place, the zone the NFL  has designated as their base time zone, it starts every where. The time and zone is just a reference point for EVERYONE to begin their free agency attempts.

Nice try to match legendary "wins against NFC teams hurt our playoff chances" thread (by the same OP if I am not mistaken), but that's really an uphill battle :)

Given your screen name I’d have thought you might understand time zones but I guess not.

But it's ok if Arizona beats us to a FA because it's better for us to lose to NFC opponents
