DrDawkinstein Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago (edited) Myles Garrett wants to play for a contender, ultimately signs $40M/yr with the Browns. DK Metcalf wants to play for a contender, ultimately signs $30M/yr with the Steelers who have no QB DeAndre Hopkins wanted out of Arizona so he could play for a contender, signed with the hapless Titans JJ Watt wasnt going back to Houston, had the Bills in a tizzy, signed with Arizona (thanks @Mark Vader) Feel free to add your own examples to the thread because I know there are others. We need to just stop even acknowledging that statement as potentially helping the Bills sign any big name FA. They're all just after the money. And I cant blame them for that, but cmon... yall Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago The guys on the WGR 550 Morning show made a suggestion that once a player publicly demands a trade that they shouldn't be allowed to resign with their current team. Far-Fetched to be sure but as a thought experiment, I like it. 1 Quote
gonzo1105 Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago It’s two fold, I want to play for a contender butttt I also want to be paid at the top of the position. They want both but the almighty dollar will prevail. Humans are inherently greedy creatures 6 Quote

Would Google Forms suffice or would they be forced to spring for a Formstack subscription? 1 1 Quote
dorquemada Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago Yeah I mean it can be true that someone wants to play for a contender, but can be persuaded to stay for enough money. It's a problem I'd love to have 4 Quote

Humans are inherently greedy creatures Could the argument also be made that leaving the team that drafted you (and that team's fanbase) behind in pursuit of a championship and personal legacy is also a form of greed? It certainly felt that way when Lebron left Cleveland the first time. Edited 3 hours ago by MPL Quote

I don’t blame guys for that. I don’t like guys who typically sign large contracts then try to force their way out Quote

Back2Buff Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago (edited) Before a season starts, how do you know who is a contender or not? Did anyone have Washington in Conference Finals before the season started and San Fran missing the playoffs? Edited 3 hours ago by Back2Buff 1 1 Quote
Don Otreply Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago Of course it is, it is always about the money, it’s the fans that get this backwards, 1 Quote

Miyagi-Do Karate Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago I think it makes sense for okay players to chase the money. They probably don’t have a huge shelf life And they need to maximize contract value. IMO, it makes no sense for elite stars to chase the money. They are going to be paid at a high rate regardless, and I think they need to be more concerned about their fit with the team (to maximize their performance), and the ability to win (to maximize their legacy). 1 2 Quote

That’s always been my thing … stop saying it when, at this point, everyone knows you’re full of sh*t. And - like you said - not a damn thing wrong with chasing the dollar. Loyalty from Owners (in all businesses) stopped happening a long time ago. It’s about time employees reciprocate accordingly. Edited 3 hours ago by Gugny 1 Quote
BillsFan130 Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago I definitely believe Garrett wanted out and to play for a contender. But.. When Cleveland offered him an insane contract, he probably thought there's no way he could turn it down. Money talks more often than not 2 1 Quote

I am almost fully on the players' side of milking as much money as the can out of the league/owners. I try to balance that with what's good for my favorite team. But I dont blame any of these guys for maximizing their payout. This thread is also about laughing at ourselves. I know I get hyped when someone like Garrett comes out and says that. Just to be fooled once again! 1 1 Quote

Buffalo benefits enormously having the Bills. There's no reason Buffalo shouldn't bear some of that cost. 2 3 Quote
