Hell yeah he is. The top nine CB contracts, ranked on AAV, are already $20M or higher. 

 

He already fits as a top nine guy. And the number at $20M or up will be a lot higher very soon.

 

If they don't sign him, they won't have a guy on either side who you'd want as your #1 on either side. 

 

I don't see any rush, but they should extend him sometime this year if it's at all reasonable / possible.

 

Note: injury is a concern. They should - obviously - listen to their doctors before making any moves like this.

I am not sure if the Bills should extend Cook or not, but it seems to be trending toward "Cook gets extension, or Cook becomes a distraction" territory, IMO.

Package him with 30 and move up in the draft.

Sure that's a possibility, but unrealistic.  Basically asking Cook to play on consecutive 1 yr deals....

 

No way Cooks camp will want that, and that's a big D move by Beane.  Haven't seen us franchise tag anyone that I can recall under his leadership

I think Benford and his concussions are an issue. I'm not giving Cook that $ as a part time player.

I don't think either of them is a priority, right now.   Both are under contract for 2025.  Not saying they should wait until their contracts are up, but there is no urgency to re-sign them right now.  They have other priorities.

I'd imagine that would move us up 5 to 7 spots at best. But if a pass rusher we really liked was available I'd throw in some additional late picks to get it done.

There is much better than a fair chance that Cook would be re-signed already if he hadn’t gone full on nuclear in public to start his side of the “negotiations “
