he absolutely could have asked for and gotten $65 million a year and nobody would have really flinched.

A team like Raiders would have given him a modern day watson contract with an insane amount of guarteed money and not think twice.

Tough to be a Cleveland fan right now. Guaranteed pay is surpassed by someone playing next year. Pay crazy money for another good player (he is worth it though), who already was ready to bail, and they are having problems getting their stadium.

Allen has time to develop into more of a pocket passer as he ages, I hope he does. Elway did play three seasons past age 35, but Elway didn’t take nearly as much abuse as Allen does.

And Elway had elite talent everywhere to take the load off of him. Allen has zero elite players currently, so hoping Beane actually finds a way to get Allen help.

I could see this being true 3 years ago, but since Brady took over the offense I feel Josh has improved his decision making and distribution from the pocket.

You make it sound like he's still scramble-happy hurdle happy Josh.  What gives?  Do you really think he hasn't improved as a pocket passer?

Just to remark on some cap details.

For those who like to follow contracts in terms of team cap %.

Spotrac has Josh Allen's new contract at 19.7 %.

That is an unbelievable discount given to the Bills by Allen.

If Allen were actually available and all you had to do was sign him to a contract and he was your QB at least 2/3 of the teams in the NFL would have offered him a 6 year deal at 70 million per year fully guaranteed.

Good trade off. More guaranteed. Less total, that can be used on player. Let’s be clear too. $250M guaranteed is enough money for anything he or his fam could ever want.

And you can throw in every dead beat cousin twice removed.

Oh I don't think that's correct. Elway had no concern for his body at all when it came to running with the football. He had massive collisions with defenders often, and he wasn't sliding to avoid hits or running out of bounds to avoid hits. That made his success late in his career even more incredible.

Josh can play to 40 if he wants.

Elway had 60 rushing attempts in a season once. Allen has averaged 108 attempts per season.

I know Elway would take a hit to make a play, but he took a lot less abuse in comparison to Allen.

I've posted decade Long NFL studies that show there is no correlation between running quarterbacks and injuries

In fact statistically most quarterbacks get hurt inside the pocket ... The percentage of injuries in Josh Allen's running group.. versus the percentage of injuries in Tom Brady's statue group is less than 1%

In fact it's the tweeners who can't decide if they want to be pocket passers or improvisers who get hurt the most... Josh like Brett favre knows how to improvise and stay safe

All Allen's injuries last year were on runs.  I believe he fractured his left hand jumping into the end zone against the Cardinals.  How long until it's his right hand?

Original deal torn up for the new 6 year one. In the NFL contracts can always be terminated

Right, I just don't understand effectively giving him $100M a year for 2 years when he had 4 years left at a much cheaper rate. Seems like the team didn't really benefit from this deal and it was just a flat out raise.

I think Allen is a good pocket passer, not elite though, which is where the conversation was coming from…that because Brady was amazing after 35, Allen will be too.

I just said that Allen is a HOF talent because of his athleticism, whereas Brady was amazing in the pocket.

What discount? They paid him $100M a year for his 2 year extension.

I'm sure the cap hit went down for the next two years and then they plan to extend him again.

Maybe he can help with the stadium overrun.

He could donate to the cause and the Bills could name the stadium after him.

How cool would it be to have the Bills win the AFCCG in the opening season of Josh Allen Stadium

My bet is that there was an agreement to keep him at a certain % of cap or at a certain level amongst his peers when the last deal was signed.

Still underpaid

Here's to hoping the clowns running the show can find at least one other elite talent

Like Stefon Diggs and Von Miller?

There is no way he signed this deal without assurances that the team would improve the defense and receivers significantly. Right?

He demanded the Sabres make the players or he's outta here.

His annual average salary is the same as Trevor Lawrence's.  That's a hometown discount.
