When it comes to the draft, I never think in terms of "absolutely."  That said, I agree that other positions need more help than defensive end.  Moreover, the odds are decent that players at positions other than DE, who are still available at #30 will have higher value than defensive end.  The speed guys at DE, (Carter, Pearce, Green, and Ezeiruaku) may all be gone.  Carter, of course, is top 5.

I would pick Kenneth Grant in a heart beat, though the odds of him being on the board aren't very good.  I'm not as excited about Harmon or Nolen as I think they are kind of like what Buffalo already has, more suited to 3 tech.  I like Matthew Golden at WR and there are several CBs who could be available depending on which ones are the best values in Brandon Beane's eyes.

I agree that the Bills need a young big body DT even with the signing of Ogunjobi, but that doesn’t have to come in round 1 ( though I’d happily take Grant there).  I think there is still room for a good DT prospect like Harmon if he is close to BPA at 30.

The CBs that will likely be there feel like a little bit of a stretch (Amos, Thomas, etc), but most of the top ones will be picked over by the Bills’ next selection, so they will probably look hard at one at 30.  One guy I hope they don’t take is Emmanwori - these guys that don’t really fit any one position scare me off.  By the accounts I’ve read, he would need to be an in-the-box S and isn’t the greatest playing deep where the Bills like to play their S.

When we win the SuperBowl next year and Brady gets poached for a HC gig, any chance we bring Daboll back as OC.  Definitely a strange relationship with McD but I think Josh still loves him. I don’t see much chance of him surviving after this year absent a Jayden Daniels type rookie performance from their #1 pick

Their GM and Coach would not survive their "tanking".

.

I understand that point and that’s an ownership problem in my view.  They are going nowhere until they can find a QB and striving for .500 with Wilson will make it much harder to get one (my opinion, of course).

Ogunjobi is listed at 305 lbs.  I agree that a big bodied DT could be picked later.  Alfred Collins and Deone Walker might be available in round two and there are a few more who could be drafted later.

Do you think Shavers can develop into someone who deserves to be on the field, or do you think he just is what he his?

I think his ceiling is Mack Hollins more or less. A 4/5 at best. He is big and long and I think that has value with the new kickoff rules. I think he could be on the field if an injury occurred, but he should not be out there over Shakir, Palmer, Coleman, Samuel...but still has value on the roster. He blocked a bunch of kicks in college. There is some pedigree here, he was once a pretty big recruit for Bama. So I guess he could do more with more opportunities to play, but IMO he mostly is what he is.

He will wait to the last minute and retire for a final f u to everybody

I'll bet he's waiting to announce it on his next Pat McAfee show appearance.

We need to get him on the Dolphins some how. He has work to do in South Florida.

Dolphins would have been wise to move for a better backup than the MILF Hunter. Not saying Rodgers would have taken that role. But Russ Wilson just may have. Russ moon balls to Hill and Waddle would have been an issue if/when Tua misses time.

Zach's first stop in Miami will be at 6151 Richmond St. to see if Blanche is home.

Fair enough. I live in Mississippi and have friends who are Miss. St. fans. They remember him as a head case - lazy with attitude. I doubt that fits on a McDermott-coached team. If he has matured and become a worker, we could see a growth spurt as a player.

Yeah, a big if. With that size and speed, a boy can hope, right?

Appreciate that tidbit! Seems like he grinds now. I think he'd be off the roster already if he wasn't.

It doesn't seem like he is MILF hunting anymore. Seems he is dating his own age group now.

I don't know who disagreed with this but this is spot on. As of right now everyone in the entire league knows the first pick is going to be a corner.

And this is how we got jumped for McDuffie...

The Bills are not alone in this. All of the good teams in the NFL have some type of need that everyone in the league knows they would like to address in the first round. This year, KC is clearly going to draft OL. Cincinnati too. If you want OL, you have to get in front of Cincinnati. Baltimore just had their starting DT retire, so they have to fill that hole in the draft. Only the teams with bad rosters truly draft BPA in the first and second rounds.

In fairness, I still think there is a good chance the Bills go DL with the first pick…

Would love to get Collins, Walker not so much.

This would be a good poll to have. Where do the Bills go at #30, DL, CB, or even WR. A lot will depend on how the draft board falls. Year after year we see players selected earlier than expected while others seem to fall like Rodgers did.
