There was one big fish player at a position of need that we could have had, but I've had my say on that subject. Adams was somewhat of a big fish but he wanted to go to California so nothing we could do. Garrett and Crosby and Higgins weren't on the table. Hendrickson is the last big fish and I'll be surprised if Cincy sends him here.

So yeah we are in kind of no man's land now. We spent last season taking our medicine so that we could afford more high end talent starting this season, but that talent just isn't available. I guess saving cap space for a hypothetical mid-season trade is one option. I can't imagine that's what Beane was planning on though. I'll keep my fingers crossed for a surprise trade.

There are still plenty positions of need on this team that match FA availabilty: CB and S specifically.  Cut Daquon and add a 3rd DT, is also a possibility.

Hit the draft for DL.

We didn't get a top flight WR, now you're all bent out of shape...

You can go back and see the history here with this regime. They will draft major question marks early and make there 3,4, and 5th round picks starters, while the early rounders will be benched, with hopes that they develop.

Let’s do just that.

2024:  Coleman, Bishop, Carter.  All starters and/or regular contributors

2023:  Kincaid, Torrence, Williams. See above.

2022:  Elam, Cook, Bernard.  Two out of three starters

2021:  Rousseau, Bashem, Brown.  See above for 2022.

2020: Epenesa, Moss.  Moss played a lot until traded.

2019:  Oliver, Ford, Singletary.  Two out of three again.

Slayton reportedly staying in Ny for the same contract Palmer received.  3-36, dunno gtd money.

I’d rather have had Slayton at that price but I’m happy with Palmer

How do you know that? Who's to say that the GM didn't strongly suggest that they sign him?

People forget that Daboll took that team to the second round of the playoffs with him in his first year. The year before that, they were horrible.

Daboll had a lot to do with Josh's development in Buffalo. Josh has said so himself. Mcdermott chased away so many decent coaches on this team. Daboll and Chad Hall are 2 right off the bat.

Who exactly made the decision to draft Josh Allen? Was it the Buffalo Bills as a faceless entity, or specific individuals in leadership? This article provides a good look at the decision-making group—five people were on that plane experiencing the "mountain wave." Three are still with the team, while the other two are now picking in the top 10 for the third time in four years.

https://www.espn.com/blog/nflnation/post/_/id/277930/on-josh-allen-bills-hope-all-turbulence-is-behind-them

After reading that article and revisiting 2018, did Josh Allen look like a surefire MVP-level quarterback? Or did the decision-makers have to develop a plan to get him there? Did he plateau after two of those decision-makers left, or did he continue to grow and win a MVP while the others made a conscious decision to move forward with Daniel Jones and then failed to develop him? Perhaps Sean McDermott and Brandon Beane deserve more credit than you've given them for cultivating the environment that allowed Josh Allen to thrive, shaping the conditions for his growth into an MVP-level quarterback.

He’s pushed away plenty of good coaches, hasn’t he? Daboll didn’t leave for a head coaching job? What has he actually accomplished in New York? Just look at what Daboll did to Wink Martindale. Daboll has always been the difficult personality, to the point where they had to move him off the sidelines because it was interfering with Josh’s development.

PFT does a top 100 FA. Including who has been picked up by whom and the rough contract.

Busy day today !

Looking it over on what's left, it seems the Safety market is pretty much at a standstill waiting for Holland at the top and there isn't much of anything as far as 1-Tech DT's.

*The list doesn't include Lions DE Za'Darius Smith or Commanders DT Jonathan Allen

8. Dolphins Safety Jevon Holland

11. Chiefs Safety Justin Reid

32. Chargers CB Asante Samuel Jr.

37. Bills WR Amari Cooper

44. Panthers CB Mike Jackson

45. Saints DE Chase Young

51. Falcons Safety Justin Simmons

54. Chargers CB Kristian Fulton

58. Commanders DE Dante Fowler Jr.

59. Vikings Safety Harrison Smith

60. Bills CB Rasul Douglas

61. Chargers DE Joey Bosa

64. Bengals DE Joseph Ossai

73. Cowboys DE DeMarcus Lawrence

77. Chiefs WR DeAndre Hopkins

80. Colts Safety Julian Blackmon

83. Dolphins DT Calais Campbell

84. Falcons DE Matthew Judon

97. 49ers DT Javon Hargrave

100. Jaguars Safety Andre Cisco

My dream FA is still a possibility:

Spend on secondary!!!!!  Hit DL via draft early and often.

Jevon Holland and Byron Murphy Jr.  Both going to cost a boatload.  Benford needs his bag, but if I'm pouring $$$ anywhere right now it's in the secondary.

I know there are still solid players available. I'm talking about difference makers. Teams by and large didn't let their difference makers hit the market. It basically ended up being Metcalf and Hendrickson.

To your first post - normally I wouldn't support a major investment in safety, but I'm kind of getting there with Holland. Mainly because there just isn't any other big ticket item to spend our money on. He is coming off a down year but you know the talent is real. Plug him in at FS and let Bishop and Rapp duke it out for the SS. It's not the most exciting big fish but it's sensible.

And FWIW I agree with you that secondary should be a big focus this offseason. Secondary talent was our vulnerability more than DL talent against the Chiefs. I'm hoping for Barron or Revel or Hairston with our 1st rounder. I personally wouldn't give a big contract to a FA CB unless they already know Benford isn't in the long term plans, but not opposed to it.

Wish they would have given slayton the money but they get younger in palmer I guess.

they also might have known he was going to stay in NY no matter they offered him and moved on.

and you made a statement that was flat out wrong

Where do any of those players rank with regards to their positions. Pull that info up stat man.

You actually listed Coleman and Bishop who disappeared when we needed them most

Agreed. He may not have wanted to leave.  Oh well.

The claim from your post.  Which was shown to be in serious error.  I don’t have to put up stats because that was not the point you tried to make.

Really disappointing start to free agency, but there wasn't a lot of talent available at our positions of need and the players that were available have received dollars way above what they should have.  Many more days ahead before the draft and the start of the season, but I am a bit perplexed with the signing of Palmer.  He can't be our new number one WR, can he?  Is he really an improvement over Samuels or Coleman?  Production was poor with the Chargers, and the Harbaugh excuse doesn't really hold up given that Harbaugh has been with the Chargers only for one year (plus McConkey had a great year).  I hope we are not satisfied at WR, because outside of Shakir, I am not sure this is even a mediocre group.  Still need a number one WR.

Starters/regular contributors doesn't equal elite and playmakers.
