This move should surprise no one..........the Bills are/were Von's last kick at the cat and it's a shame it didn't work out, however, even testing FA really isn't going to amount too much for him, as he's aging, has lost a step, sat out with injuries, etc.

The guy should just call it a day and retire.

It’s not just the money you consider at this point, it’s that his spot on the roster would be an opportunity cost against someone fresh who will likely be younger and — hopefully — much, much more effective.

Putting an aging pass rusher who’s snaps you want to limit anywhere on the 53 probably doesn’t make sense. If you can put him on the practice squad after free agency thins out, that’s the smart play imo.

Von would retire before being on anyone’s practice squad, as would any other potential first ballot HoFers.

Don't agree I don't think he is much at risk.

Low pass rush win rate.  I'm not so sure.  He's an aces human being--great guy--but they might think they can upgrade.

Sounds more like a “let’s see what our DE room looks like this Summer and if you haven’t found a home yet and are willing to come back on a low base/incentives contract, we can work something out”.

I have no idea what Von’s market would be.

He'd likely only play for a contender or maybe a team like Denver.   Not sure any of those teams have interest at him on a 1 year / 10M type deal that we see aging pass rushers get after FA and the draft are all sorted out.

He's not safe imo. He's been underwhelming so far and could conceivably be cut or packaged in a trade, hopefully.

I look at him like Hamlin. Quality depth, but not starting caliber. Sure, they can start for the Panthers and Patriots of the league, but they're not the starters you want on a championship caliber roster.

JMHO....

I don't disagree, but I have been of the view that it was an either or situation with Von and AJE.

Thanksgiving days games suck.

thanks for the memory Von:  @Kc 2022.  That game showed us why you were brought in.  Then thanksgiving happened and it was over.  As was our pass rush

I am not arguing he is a great player, he is a depth piece and releasing him saves a little but it would need to be replaced, you are creating a hole.  You will spend more than the savings to replace him.  He may be a guy who could get a salary cut with unlikely to be earned incentives or something.

I hope they give Solomon those reps he had.

No surprise here

It’s easy to look at the result of Von’s career in Buffalo and say this move was a bust - but the process was solid.  It all fell apart when he blew his ACL.

When Von was active before Thanksgiving 2022, the defense was getting home with 4 and looked great.

If you’re someone who wants a Trey Henrickson this season, you can’t criticize this move.

No you don’t - go watch the last Baltimore TD drive.  You don’t want Solomon getting those reps

I think that’s why they drafted Solomon last year to become that rotational pass rush guy

I think renegotiating his contract at a friendly deal and then using them as trade fodder would have been perfect. A team like carolina, new england, someone who needs the good PR will eat him up

Bills fans forget how good he was in 2022.  He likely would have finished with double digit sacks

Except Solomon isn’t as good

He was also a 5th round rookie who saw limited snaps. Give a guy a chance who flashed.
