I look at him like Hamlin. Quality depth, but not starting caliber. Sure, they can start for the Panthers and Patriots of the league, but they're not the starters you want on a championship caliber roster.

If the Bills were to release AJE, that’s more dead cap and then they still need to find someone else for depth.  I’d be shocked if they got rid of AJE too.

 

As for Von, both parties saying they’d be open to a return is just playing nice in the sand.  Beane going to fill Von’s role with an upgrade, yet didn’t make sense for Von to restructure either.  Essentially Von will play for more money if somehow we come crawling back to him, which we won’t at this point.

Not much more to add, I agree with most, pre injury he looked great.  It was time to move on. I don't blame him for not taking another huge pay it to stick around

He’ll come back if the Bills truly want him at a discount and no other contender gives him what he’s looking for.

Von was as advertised prior to his injury. It sucks but the $$ vs on field performance did not add up.

100%. It was a high risk/reward move that went the wrong way. I thought the risk was declining production from an aging player. The injury was devastating. In hindsight I have no issue with taking a swing even though it turned out to be a miss.

You think some other team is going to give him anything other than a steep discount? I don’t. It’s either play for pennies (for a contender, he’s not going to the Browns) or hang em up.

I think Von was willing to take a cut. The Bills just didn't want him around anymore. He's not going to get better at his age. They'd rather give younger players the snaps he'd take

They can designate a cut as a post 6/1 cut, but cut him now so that he can try to find another team. I'm sure that's what they did.

That’s too bad but the right move. Von wanted to be a Bill and win another SB here.

On the bright side I won’t be saying any longer that he plays more like Van Miller.

If Beane did that none of his cap savings can be used until after June 1st.

Best to cut loose now and use that cap.

It’s not just the money you consider at this point, it’s that his spot on the roster would be an opportunity cost against someone fresh who will likely be younger and — hopefully — much, much more effective. 
 

Putting an aging pass rusher who’s snaps you want to limit anywhere on the 53 probably doesn’t make sense. If you can put him on the practice squad after free agency thins out, that’s the smart play imo.
