We need to add 2 DL

Well, I think it's one difference maker.  A guy who is a disrupter.  A tackle or an edge.  Sure, two would be nice, but they don't come cheap, and one would make everyone else along the line better.

Yep!

I’m convinced the Bills will free up lots of cap room and spend on players more than they have in the past to reshape the defense.

The problem is that this is, by all accounts, kind of a 💩 FA class. Everyone of note is resigning where they are.

if the cap never went up, I would agree with this. However since the cap will be going up around 90 million over the next 3 years…

Fretting over extending your own solid players at less than current market value seems like complete absurdity

Yea I had one play with Spotrac around Christmas and I came to the conclusion that the Bills were fine this year cap wise. Unlike last year they can free up money without cutting / allowing to walk starting players.

Plenty of room to add a difference maker. Problem is I think they are all off the board trade / FA wise.

Im bracing myself for some slightly above average numbers for slightly above average players.

I think many here have captured my thoughts on Beane and his ability it find and assemble a good to very good roster. The elite players are what we’re missing. The top end talent has proven not good enough to get it done over the past 3-4 years and I am not sure where they plan to address that now.

I have mixed feelings on it. On one hand, from an entertainment standpoint, it would have been tremendously exciting to land a fish line Higgins, Garrett or DK. On the flip side of it, they were a few bad bounces away from winning the AFCC game.

I was ahead of the curve on this Beane point. I have been there since after our last AFCCG defeat. That especially in the draft he has struggled aside from Josh to find elite. My take then was "that is the thing he has to do to get us over the hump". But 4 years later we are still here.

This isn't a hate on Beane post. He is a really good GM. He misses less than almost all his contemporaries. If he had found one more elite player - at edge or WR - I am convinced the Bills would have a Lombardy and he would be regarded in or around the Howie Roseman class.

Agree and that is why despite non-premium spot I think Holland is the guy I'd now be in on. He is the only guy in this pool now who has a case to be top 10 at his position and it happens to be the biggest hole the Bills have.

You don’t think Hendrickson is a difference maker?

I do believe they will make a bid for Hendrickson and even other trade opportunities that we hadn’t talked about but the odds of getting a Hendrickson are low.

Odds are they fill out the rest of the needs at safety, CB, DT, DE and WR with better replacements in most of those positions than what we had in 2024.

I think they will try to get one of the better Edge rushers available such as Bosa, Mack, Sweat (which someone will overpay big time for him), Za’Darius.

But I believe most of the signings will be potential value signings that have chances to become good players.

I could be on board with Holland and Allen. I wanted DJ Jones but think he’s going, or already went, back to Denver. I think Holland is a realistic target. I also think that they are in on the veteran edge guys. They’ll land one or even two with Von being one of them.

I would also be hammering the phone with the Bengals. I’m starting by offering 2 1’s and a 2 for Chase. Make them say no. I’d pivot to Higgins or Hendrickson but not at that price obviously.

I don't think he will leave Cincinnati. I do think he is a difference maker but he is definitely a level down from the Garrett's and Crosby's of the world.

Good players don't move the dial for me really. We have loads of good players. My hope was finding a way to add a high end difference maker. Maybe Hendrikson still qualifies as that, but adding a 30 year old tier 2 edge rusher doesn't get me jumping off my chair either in all truth.

That's why I am in on Holland. I think he is the closest to an elite player at his position of everyone in the FA / known available trade pool.

we are a little under cap by 6.5 mil. I do not see any other contract extensions that is going to give us much more than this. Maybe we can get to +10 mil?

It sounds like they are about $20Mish under now. They haven’t pulled the trigger on Dawkins/Brown/Oliver (and won’t unless they need to). They need around $2.5M for the draft class and another few million for in season moved

No. This doesn't include Allen who had a 44 Million hit this season.   His new deal will make that number lower

I don’t trust Spotrac on cap space. They deal in absolutes. Cap space is not your checkbook or bank account. It’s more like a wealthy person’s tax return after it was completed by a shady accountant.

tier 2 edge? Haha are you joking?  Hendrickson has 17.5 sacks in each of the last 2 seasons.

He does. He still isn't in the class of a Garrett or a Crosby. And he is 30. I like Trey a lot. I wanted him when he was leaving the Saints. But he isn't in that true elite territory, he is just a tick below that. Similar to how I saw DK as a wide receiver. But DK is 3 years younger.

Hendrikson will come wanting a long term deal because if he leaves Cincy that is why. And then you are back where you were with Von. Offering a 4 or 5 year deal when really you only expect him to play 2 or 3 on it. If the Bengals cut him and you can do that without the draft capital cost that is one thing. If you have to give up a day two pick and know at the point you re-do his deal you are bound to give yourself a dead cap headache at the end.... yea, I'm not sure how excited that makes me.
