For me, I liked 3 out of the four so far. But I want to see how it all plays out before judging how the rest of their plan unfolds. There are definitely layers to what an NFL front office does

Man, what do you have against poor Reid Ferguson?

Agree with most of the points made. Two other points:

1. It is super nice that the team now has players like Bernard, Rousseau and Shakir that are drafted and developed players and it isn't a matter of should they be retained/signed it is what is the right value.

2. The cap is being managed well so that when it is time to give out 2nd contracts to good players they are in a position to do so without going through a crazy cap moves to be able to do it. In these instances, they are actually saving on the cap and the extensions enable them to do other things.

Not sure what gave off the impression that his deal I didn't care for, but I didn't mind his. The only one I find a tad unlikeable so far is the Groot one.

And that's only because year in and year out he starts the season well. Gets some sacks then has foot/ankle injuries that slow his production the rest of the year. Would have liked to see him stay productive for an entire year before extending him. I get why they did it, like the player and the number isn't terrible. Just hoping for some consistency. This one was more of a gamble then the others IMO.

I’m wondering, @Jrb1979, what exactly do you disagree with here? Or are you just being negative for negativities sake?

I disagree with the cap management part.   Winning a Super Bowl means more to me than being a competitive team each season.

I'm happy with what has been done so far.

It doesn't detract from what we need to do.

These extensions actually make it much easier to do what the team needs to do -- acquire better veteran players for the defensive line, defensive backfield, and wide receiver.   Not only do these moves open up some additional cap space, they also provide a financial/cap blueprint for the next four years, so that Beane knows what the cap situation is now and what it will be over the next years.   That's essential for writing contract proposals for UFAs.

Von needed to go,but this IMHO means a big move or two on the DL is coming.

I totally agree.   Just doing the rough math from what I've read from posters much more knowledgeable about the cap implications of these moves, the Bills have opened up almost $20 million in cap space for 2025 with the Rousseau extension and Miller release.    They wouldn't be doing that if they were going to "keep the status quo" as some complain.

Disagree. They will add in Free Agency but I don't see it being the Myles Garrett level of add. It's going to be a mid tier level guy.

What does the first sentence have to do with the second sentence.

A lot. This regime and to an extent fanbase, is always worried about the cap for not just this season but going forward. To make sure they stay competitive year in and year out.

Where I don't care if they are in cap hell next season or later. Push the money down the road, who cares if you have to suck 2 years from now.

So, you’re just in it for short term gratification. Got it. Pretty common these days, so you are not alone.

Have any of these extensions freed up any 2025 cap space?  With a Josh Allen extension also coming how behind the 8 ball are we in 2026?

Rousseau's extension is supposed to have freed up around $10 million I believe.  Releasing Miller frees up $8+ million.  Significant dollars.

I would rather do what the Rams did and go all in to win, than be competitive every season and hope to catch lightening in a bottle.

You can go all in and lose, too. Going “all in” guarantees nothing, other than issues down the road. You have to be in it to win it. I think of that as the more mature point of view, but you do you. If we had won a SB 5 or 10 years ago, it would give me absolutely no pleasure whatsoever next season.

If Cleveland won't trade Garrett, there's nothing that the Bills can do about it.  If Cincinnati won't trade Hendrickson, there's nothing that the Bills can do about it.  Las Vegas has already extended Crosby.  I think that Dallas has extended Parsons, too.

Grow up.  You can't always get what you want, including a Super Bowl win.  🙄

I see you didn't mention Cincinnati, which made it to the SB in 2021, lost, didn't make the SB in 2022, and hasn't made the playoffs the last two years ... or the 49ers that lost the 2023 SB, and won all of 6 games last season.

And how you could forget the New York Jests who went so "all in" on a SB run that they traded for Aaron Rodgers, kissed his backside by bringing in all his pals, fired their HC and GM, and are drafting #7 after a 5 win 2024 season?

…it is once again very nice to see and be a fan of a professionally run organization.  Beane is getting all of his ducks in a row before the start of FA negotiations and the draft so he knows exactly what he’s working with, and he and his staff can focus their efforts on the next steps.

It’s great to know we have a team with a plan — even if that plan isn’t exactly what some of us would come up with ourselves.

Don't let anyone on SabreSpace see this post. It'll give 'em a stroke.   They already spend their days trying to fit that square peg into the round hole of how Terry Pegula can have three successful franchises (Bills, Bandits, Amerks) and one basket case of a team. (Sabres)
