Like I'm not saying they're they're the best players in the NFL but if you think DK is better than both of them I don't know what to tell you that's your opinion 

 

If we put better defensive tackles around them and a better defensive end they would look better.. Bernard had a better AV then Nick Bolton has ever had in his career 

 

Even Ray Lewis didn't look as dominant when he didn't have the front in front of him... Like Bernard needs guys clogging Lanes to be effective.. we don't have a lot of good defensive linemen you can't get rid of your best defensive end who actually would have been in line for that contract with any team

 

You need a lot more than two good players to have a good NFL defense 

 

You need 12-14 guys .. you need a starting 11 plus some guys you could put in in rotation 

 

We're not there I don't know why people think we're doing less with more.. McDermott's doing more with less 

 

His entire team has been built on mid round picks that he developed.. he's not getting a bunch of Blue Chip guys to work with 

 

Greg and Benford and Bernard would start on the majority of NFL football teams they just need good players around them... There's only one miles Garrett and one deion Sanders 

 

Every other player needs people around them that's why it's a team game.. McDermott took a Brown's castaway in poyer er and made him an All-Pro... Took a role player from Green Bay and hyde and made him an All-Pro 

 

Took a fifth round pick in Milano and made him an All-Pro 

 

Took a six round pick in Benford and made him a really good corner 

 

Sean McDermott develops players at a higher rate than any coach in the NFL beane hasn't given him enough

Beane's biggest weakness has been the resources deployed to the D line which remains a weakness.  Groot and Oliver were first round picks and both have been good but far from difference makers.  The Miller signing was a bust.  Injury related, but a bust nonetheless.  We drafted AJE and Basham with second round picks and the return was a depth player and a guy who is nearly out of the league.  Star was signed to a big contract in FA and his play remained a subject of hot debate on this board.  So many free agent signings were completely lackluster from Poona, to Settle, Jefferson, Vernon Butler. 

 

Addison, floyd, and DaQuan were nice signings that panned out however briefly.

That pick, the literal pick, was used to select Justin Jefferson. If anything, I think that highlights that doing the right thing doesn't necessarily always lead to the best outcomes.

I think your observations are good.  I think that Beane's done a good job with the money he has to spend on d line.  He needs 8-10 decent linemen to play McD's rotation. He can't afford to buy both depth and talent.  

 

On top of that,McD demands versatility.  So, in the first round you get Rousseaus and Olivers, not boom or bust talents.  

 

Given those constraints, I think Beane has done well

Holding the same talent level while increasing the cost base is never a good move.

 

The big bet here is on the player improving and taking that next step in his development. Not very likely for a DE entering his 4th of 5th season, especially when you consider that the part of the game where he is lacking is the one real talent is born with.

In my mind they're approximately the same caliber of player, Sweat offers more pass rush Rousseau offers more edge setting.

Yes without debate.

 

It was the second most impact a singular addition had on wins of Beane’s career, second only to Josh. 

Is JJ even there if teams know we are WR needy in the first? Maybe, maybe not. If he is there, do we even take him? Maybe, maybe not. If we take JJ instead have the same or better impact? Maybe. We’ll never know.
 

What we do know is that trading for Diggs is second in “wins added” CLEARLY imo. I don’t think you can make a reasonable debate for any other single player outside of Josh in Beane’s tenure, but you are welcome to try.

Combined with one of the worst decisions to extend him early. He had the history and was showing the history before our eyes. We treated throwing money at him like a divorce ready couple having a kid. The conclusion sort of takes the appeal of the initial move (which I agree was good) but part of the game is recognizing when the deck is no longer in your favor and walking away. We doubled down and that was a mistake.

I posted about him quite a few times going back 2-3 weeks.

 

If they don’t swing for the fences with Hendrickson then with what’s left I’m leaning Za’Darius Smith.  He’s still producing well and probably can be had without breaking the bank.
