I'm not holding my breath on a Cook extension.

This team is not going to give a RB anywhere near what I'm guessing Cook is looking for.

Agreed.  I think they are making him an offer, but doubt he takes it based off his SM posts

I was just telling my friend I think this actually helps the case for a garret or Hendrickson. This gives beane free reign to do what he wants with groots money, and he's only 24 that tells me beane probably has no fear kicking the money down the road opening up things now.

You’d think that about kicking it down the road but that wasn’t really the case with the Shakir deal. I don’t know why I’d expect this to be any different.

Personally with the Garrett trade likely happening after 6/1, they’ll still need to invest significantly into FA and the draft to build the DL up.

I think it limits the likelyhood they’ll be able to swing it in June. The timing makes things difficult and less than ideal on both sides

I don't know. It's lower than he could have gotten. But now we're spending a fortune on players that disappear in critical moments. I think they needed to be willing to shake up the roster and instead they're running it back.

They have to be right about these extensions. They're betting on several players to be a lot better than they have been. These contracts are going to prevent us from signing established game changers. So these players need to become game changers.

Sure was! Especially when KC scored more than 30 points for their first time all season when it mattered the most.

I think that was mainly due to our weakened and porous secondary.  We really need to upgrade there.

That was probably the worst game of his career, but the Bills gameplan also had something to do with it.

But you feel free to cling to one game and ignore the rest of his career; it's par for the course around here.

IDK how I feel about this. As a lot of posters alluded, he disappears for stretches. I feel like the money could’ve been better invested to a high level FA or trade. We are not a rebuilding team. The Bills are literally 2 blue chip players away from dethroning KC.

Maybe Beane knows something we don’t? Maybe he realizes Garrett/Crosby/Metcalf will be unattainable? The positives are he is a homegrown player that can rack up 8-10 sacks along w/ being force against the run.

Going into year 5 does he have the chance to get better? I’ll give the Tremaine Edmunds argument that he is still only 24. We shall see. Trust the process !

Fair points.

If the plan is to address the DL through the Draft by signing a mercenary EDGE and drafting a DT early, I can see that being underwhelming.

If the idea is pay Rousseau and then make a big trade or sign Sweat AND use an early pick on the DL… I see the vision.

I think Beane realizes that a talented, big/physical 1T needs to be next to Ed Oliver.    And I think Beane realizes a legitimate 10+ sack guy needs to be opposite Rousseau.

That can be accomplished via trade, signing a guy like Sweat and through the Draft, but we very clearly still need 2-3 new pieces on the DL.

I don't know why people are mad at this deal. We now have Rousseau for 5 more seasons at a total possible cost of $93.4M. That averages out to about $18.7M per season. That's a good deal imo.

I don't care how much he makes. These guys put their health at risk for our entertainment, so they should make as much money as they can. What I do care about is the cap hit in 2025. Until I see that, I have no opinion.

I can’t say for certain we couldn’t match his production with a high draft choice.  Is it a gamble, always.  But it’s 15 mil cheaper and we know what we have with Groot.

I know I’m a broken record, but we need something different on defense.  We need a game wrecker.  Groot isn’t it.  I’d rather put that money towards a proven guy and draft for depth.

We haven't gotten to Monday, yet. Let's wait and see what happens.

Beane again handing out overpays and we will forever be over the cap year after year.  Team cannot get improve talent through free agency because Beeane never has money to spend and his drafting has not been great .

Except this deal actually creates $10m in cap space. The NFL salary cap is often illusionary.

Listen, I love the Bernard and Shakir extensions. It’s not like I’m some type of hater. I think my post history proves that.

I just don’t like the Rousseau one. At all.

how does this prevent us from getting game changers? It freed up a chunk of space

We're only over the cap in the offseason,  and briefly at that.

No team can forever be over the cap,  the league won't allow it.

I guarantee you that we'll be under the cap when the new league season starts next week.

I’m sure you are a football genius. Keep screaming Groot as we choke in the playoffs every year.

I'm not a genius; I just know what I'm watching and don't feel the need to whine about everything I don't understand.
